Louise
Last night I left work at 4 to go to Argos at Straigton to pick up a microwave which I had reserved online just after 2pm Bloke on till says oh sorry this has been cancelled. I laugh thinking he is just having a laugh but no it HAD been cancelled. I'm sorry he said I don't know why so he checks the system and they have no microwaves of the type I want Over I trot to customer services to find out what is going on and she helpfully tells me they have 8 at Kinnaird Park (Sheriffhall roundabout at 4pm no danger ) and several in the shop on the bridges (centre of Edinburgh at 4pm likewise ) Not once did they offer to get one in for collection today or even offer free delivery because they have wasted my time. I eventually got her to phone the shop in Galasheils and reserve the only one they have for collection on Saturday It had better be there All this because my microwave has stopped going 'ting' and won't switch itself off Then since I had shopping to do I nipped into Sainsburys. I used to do all my shopping in Sainsburys down south but I don't have one near home so tend to use a small Somerfield. Imagine my disgust when I discovered that many of the fruits and veg can now only be bought pre packed. For example I bought a cauliflower some sprouts a bit of brocolli some sweet potatoes and went to get a few carrots and the smallest bag had about 10 in it I only use 3 a week how wasteful would that be I then went and looked round to see there were no loose oranges, apples or pears. What do you do when you live alone or as a couple with no children how wasteful Anyway I bought the bare minimum and went home next week I am sticking to my nice LITTLE shop that caters for me
Popcorn
Sympathies Louise! We have our veggues delivered weekly these days in a box, as we are reluctant to line the pockets of the big supers. Much better to support your local area I think. Totally agree with the prepacked stuff - and apart from anything else, what a waste of packaging Argos: what a
Louise
Yes Gina, I have thought about veggie boxes but there is just too much in them. I only went there because I didn't want to stop twice I should stick to only going there for unusual stuff I can't get in my usual shop
chocchick
Rubbish, one day all these shops will lose their customers and then they'll be sorry!
Louise
Trouble is the way certain companies are growing we may have no choice
The Dogmother
I'm the same Louise, there's too much in the boxes for Rosie and I (and Phil on the odd occasion), and they don't contain the things I normally buy either.
Louise
I am terrible with veg as I get bored with things and then stop eating them so I tend to get a small amount of alot of things and then have a combination of three which I try not to duplicate through the week - just like a child really
soufflé
I'm really lucky being in the vale of Evesham - we are surrounded by a sea of poly tunnels and little stalls selling fresh produce at the side of the road - I'd much rather give my money to the people who grow the stuff, and, of course, it is all really nice and fresh. My friend's family grows tomatoes in Offenham near Evesham Louise, I read an article in the metro this week about a report saying how many customers companies were stupid and risked losing out by their poor customer service e.g. call centres. It made me feel better like it wsn't so unchangable. One company I worked at made it delibrately difficult to get an old product so that people would move onto their new one! Mel (& Paul)
We tend to get our veggies from the farmers market in Wimborne on a Friday now - fantastic local produce, nice and fresh - and you can buy as much or as little as you like! We have also ordered half a lamb from a local farm - organicly fed and treated homopathicly(not sure thats how you spell the word ) and we are really looking forward to that. Had roast chicken last night - DELICIOUS If I cant get to the market then I tend to stick to Waitrose as they do local produce and a lot of stuff is not prepacked
The Dogmother
I wish I could get to our farmers market, but it is on a Friday, and I can't get away from work to go there If I sent Phil, I dread to think what I'd get back! I have heard of a farm shop about 10 miles away, I may go over next weekend and see what they do.
Mel (& Paul)
Luckily our farmers market starts at 7.30am so I go before I go to work (to many goes?!?!?)
