8) That sounds interesting, morris.

As for computers, it's so frustrating isn't it?

Thanks for taking the trouble to come back here with your reply, I'm sure the mod. will see it.

Looking forward to hearing more about safe, free food. Perhaps in self sufficient life section, when you can trust your computer. I love mushrooms! :D

I love mushrooms too :D We used to get up early and go across the fields to pick them, we used to get those huge puffball ones too, they were yummy fried in butter and herbs :D

Not quite the same but I bought a kit just before Christmas which I want to start this weekend, it was only £1.99 in Focus :D

We go on a mushroom picking walk every year which is run by a local man who really 'knows' his mushrooms :) Loads of people turn up and we go to three different wooded areas and are shown which are edible and which to avoid  We then all go back to his woodkeepers hut and fry them up and eat them, great fun :) I have an identify mushroom book, but have never been brave enough to do it without supervision  Those grow your own kits are great, christmas before last I gave loads as presents and they went down very well :P

I used to go mushrooming as a kid with my dad, we sold our surplus to some very posh restaurants and made a tidy profit- one year I bought a new bike on the proceeds. There are only 4 or 5 you have to watch out for, you are more likely to get one that doesn't taste good than one that will kill you.

I pick mushrooms which I find on our smallholding - and identify them in the book i have.

I think about eating the edible ones and then get cold feet because the book also shows similar mushrooms.... which aren't edible... and I doubt my own judgement.

The only ones i've cooked were the Lawyer's Wig/Shaggy Ink Cap.

I'd be interested in learning more............
