Guest
my new tablets are making me feel dizzy and nauseous. The problem is, the doc gave me some antibiotics for a water infection at the same time. The anitbio course is for 3 days so if my new tablets are still making me sick after I've finished the antibios, I'll have to go back again. I feel like I'm on the verge of throwing up all the time and my appetite has gone. I'm fed up, but, on the plus side, I might lose a bit of weight

bronze
I hope it works. Nothing worse than taking medication that makes you feel ill.
feemcg
I know how you feel Poet - I've been on Fluclox 500mg since Sunday for cellulitis in my leg, and they make me feel so nauseous. You have to take them on an empty stomach which is worse. I've been to the docs this morning and she's added Pen V 500mg to be taken for a further week along with the Fluclox, so I'll probably have thrush by tomorrow.....and I've got 3 cold sores . I just keep drinking black tea all day and chewing minty chewing gum helps me, believe it or not. Hope you feel better soon.
Guest
i always get thrush when i'm on antibios so i'll have that to look forward to in a few days. The irony is, the antibios were for cystitis! chewing gum sounds like a good idea, thanks. hope you feel better soon too, what are we like! xxx
Cinnamon
i always get thrush when i'm on antibios so i'll have that to look forward to in a few days. The irony is, the antibios were for cystitis! Me too, isn't it a total bore? I do hope you get your meds sorted soon - feeling dizzy & sick all the time must be a nightmare. The only medication I ever had to make me sick was Nefanamic Acid for period pains. It made me feel worse than the pain itself
Guest
I've had 2 bouts of cystitis in the last cple of months, I just put it down to my immune system being a bit low but I've just read this, "There can be several reasons for the bacteria settling in the bladder. Inadequate emptying resulting in stagnation of urine may lead to infection. This may be caused by some drugs (for example, antidepressants)" might be the diazepam that caused it. The doc never mentioned that could have been a factor when he gave me the antibios on Monday. Will have to stock up on the cranberry juice! feemcg
Mefenamic Acid (Ponstan) is renowned for making you feel sick and dizzy, Sarah - it had that effect on my mum when she used it for back pain, and I used to see it a lot on the wards too. I don't think it's used so much now.

Omletina Kyckling
Hi Poet, My sympathies too, I hope you feel better soon. I'm on methotrexate for my arthritis and I have two or three days each week when I'm nauseous and exhausted so I can sympathise - I just accept that those days are "down" days now!! Hope you're all better soon. Cystisis is quite literally a pain! If you ever get a bout and you don't have anything in to take for it, if you take bicarbonate of soda mixed with some water (drink quickly as it tastes foul) that helps to start thing calming down (it's similar to the stuff in the over the counter preparations but they have flavouring added) - I add it to cranberry juice to disguise the taste. I put about 2-3 teaspoons in.

Hope your feeling better soon & you poet!!
Guest
(it's similar to the stuff in the over the counter preparations . yeah, i got some sodium citrate sachets which seemed to do the trick but it came back a few days later. Doc said all that stuff does is make the urine less acidic and just covers up the symptoms. He said that can be dangerous as the infection can travel to your kidneys if left untreated, so I should be on antibios. Why do they sell that stuff then!?? That happened to me a couple of years ago - water infection spread to my kidneys. It was the worst thing I have ever had in my life - 3 lots of Antibiotics were needed to shift it Whenever i get cystitis now I go straight to the Doctor for Antibiotics - no mucking about
Omletina Kyckling
I think there are different kinds of cystisis though - some of them are bacterial and recurring and others are something else (you can tell I'm a medical expert can't you?) - I know of some people who get it a lot and need antibiotics and others who just get a bout once in a blue moon and the sachets/cranberry juices work - I've always found that they sort mine out quite quickly and it doesn't recur, maybe I've just been lucky. I can't take antibiotics with my methotrexate anyway so I'd have to try everything else first!

Guest
I always feel sick when I take Diazepam Hot water bottles always help. And chocolate xx it just makes me tired but if I'm tired, I'm not stressing out, so I think that's the point!? I took 2 on Monday before I went to the docs and nearly fell asleep in the waiting room! pelicano
I recently heard about something called d-Mannose for cystitis. If you Google it there is lots of info around. It's a natural product which apparently flushes the bacteria out of your system much like cranberry juice but better. I haven't yet used it myself (touch wood!!), but thought you might like to have a look into it? Especially if you are regularly having to take antibiotics (horrible things). Interesting to hear about Ponstan, as I took that years ago for period pain. It was great for the pain, but gave me horrible migraines, so I had to stop. Tiggy
urine infections can make you feel sick but there is horrible bug around that is doing the same, I hope you havn't got that Fee. Trimethoprim normally doesnt upset your tummy or give you thrush. I hope you feel better soon
Guest
i was supposed to drive my mum to art class but i'm now dizzy on top of the nausea, I daren't get behind the wheel and i hate letting people down! The antibios finish today so I'm going to ring the doc on monday if i still feel like this, it's a bit like feeling seasick.
Christian
I know you aren't supposed to mix medication Poet, but maybe try kwells for travel sickness?? Speak to your Doctor about it. When I have had a week of windy weather and flying about Europe in my little planes, I sometimes take half a tablet as it stops that 'boaty' feeling.
