Guest
it's all over the press but here's a link to one of the stories. Seems very convenient to me that a battery egg farmer should have been eating in there and demanded to see the eggs, smacks of a 'set up' to discredit Jamie but then again the staff should have been much more careful... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/01/16/jamie-oliver-s-battery-egg-shock-89520-20287573/
bronze
Do you know what gets me cross. How can then throwing them away make it better! They have been laid, thoses hens have been in that position don't then go and waste them at least give them to someone who would use them. chickencam
This definately smells like Jamie was set up, but the eggs should not have been thrown away, what a waste, it makes the lives of the chickens who laid them even more pointless. I was really upset when I dropped an egg from one of my girls into the sink yeaterday, forunately it didn't break the membrane therefore I have been able to use it to make pastry for an egg custard. I would hate to waste the hard work that my girls do for me.
Guest
My partner came home yesterday saying that a colleague is now only going to buy free range eggs after seeing the Jamie Oliver show. Free range and battery eggs have been around for a long time... Don't get me wrong, that is a very positive step and publicity about battery hens is a good thing by spreading awareness. But why are people like sheep? "Jamie Oliver says not to buy eggs from battery hens" - so he must be right! People should be making an informed decision based on facts, not being brain washed by celebrities that only care about making money and their reputation! Sheilaz
....By why are people like sheep? "Jamie Oliver says not to buy battery hens" - so he must be right! People should be making an informed decision based on facts, not brain washed by celebrities that only care about making money and their reputation, not animal welfare. I thought the programme itself was very good, never mind who was presenting it. Although I know what you mean about blindly following "celebrities", but in this case the programme was presenting people with facts that they might not have considered before.
