gemschooks
I am new to all this - had my rescue girls for only two weeks! They've started to appear a little frustrated being stuck in the run for the last few days, and one has even managed a couple of escapes! So I put them out for an hour or so today for their first bit of free ranging, however, after i'd enticed them back in, one of the girls was pacing back and forth past the door looking for an escape route and seeming most unhappy - this then seemed to lead to a bit of bickering between the girls. Is this normal? Thanks Gemma

AJuff
Daisy our chief hen does this too. Definately a sulking pacing in the hope of being let out again. They're masters at making you feel guilty!
Eyren
Angelica has been doing this a lot since I introduced the two new banties - particularly when she sees me at the living-room window! You have to be kind but firm with them, like you would with a toddler, or they'll become spoilt and rule your life!

Eyren
Mine only do it if they catch sight of me. Mine too! Before poor old Migsy popped her clogs, I used to have to sneak onto the sofa (which is under the living room window) via a half-drawn curtain, so she wouldn't catch sight of me and start squawking to be let out

theherd123
Gemma you could try adding something to the run to keep their interest when you pop them back in. Have you hung up CDs yet or given them something to perch on? You can get those wire frames you hang suet in for the birds - try filling it with lettuce, greens and odds & sods of fruit & veg - that shoud keep them busy for a while. gemschooks
thanks everybody for the reassurance and helpful advice. I let them out again today whilst I cleaned the eglu - they seem to enjoy pottering around my feet and sticking their face in the garden hose! Emma - they have hanging cd, some hanging broccoli and that guinea pig log thing you suggested - they love the log/perch thing! I've also given them some yummy couscous with marmite, tomato along with some grapes and dried cranberries so they seem quite happy today - less evidence of pacing at the moment as they are all busy eating! thanks again! Richard
They do this to make you feel guilty Chickens are the masters at getting their own way Absolutley! Yep. Evil Georgie was an expert. She used to pace up and down inside the run, along the chicken wire, pecking at the wire. Anyone would think she never got out - and the run is about six times as big as my office anyway!
