HRC99
Nearly there now, Found a supplier of the Organic Feed Company Layers Pellets & Mixed corn near me. He's put a 20kg bag of each aside for me which I'm collecting before I pick up the chooks on Saturday. So that's cube, chooks, feed and hemcore sorted now. The next few days are going to drag, I think. I cannot wait, I'm so excited. It's all I'm thinking about at the moment.
chelsea
I used the organic company for feed and pellets. My girls go MAD for their organic mixed corn.....I can get them back in the run in seconds if I have some of that in my hand.

HRC99
Well, the delivery company were tapping on my door just before nine with 5 enormous parcels. Much heavier than I'd expected, I couldn't believe that they'd sent the driver out on his own with them! Off out to pick up the feed, grit and the bedding now. Back to assemble later on. I can't wait. Although, it looks as if it may take a while!

Snowy
Don't worry, it doesn't take long. If you have the run as well, that is the bit that takes the time - all those fiddly little green clips! Don't forget to take pics - we need to see it when it's done! Ziggy
Good luck with the assembly!!! I've just been through it last weekend, I sympathise with the 'little green clips' hardship
Dodge
Congratulations on getting your new cube May I suggest a couple of tips on building it. 1: study the instructions very carefully before starting so that you are familiar with all the bits that make up the cube and run. It is very easy in your excitement to just dive in, but time spent reading the manual will pay dividends in time saved putting it together. 2: get some small bowls (I used breakfast cereal bowls) and then open the bags of nuts and bolts into one and the dreaded green clips in another etc etc. This will make it easy to pick them up as requested without dropping any whilst fumbling to get them out one by one out of the plastic bags. This is the hard bit, keep your chooks in the cube and run for 5 days before you let them out into your garden. Only by doing this will they then know that the cube is their home and seeing them all returning back to their cube at dusk for the first time is amazing. I have had my cube and chooks now for nearly 4 weeks, and we don't know how we managed without them before. Good luck and let’s have some pics when it's all done. HRC99
Thanks for the pointers. I'm not the best at reading instructions but I will force myself this time. My girlfriend's at work today and is keen to be involved. From the sounds of things, maybe I should leave her to sort out the little green clips! Pinkybijou
Woooo hoooo! Best of luck with the assembly, especially in this wind. I got a very sore thumb from doing all the green clips, and wished I'd worn leather gloves or something at the start - that's my only tip - wear gloves or a thumb protector! One other thing, one of my chooks from the chap in Spaldington has lice eggs in her feathers, so if you are getting them from him do check them when you collect them tomorrow. Excited for you both! Ziggy
Green clips I shouldn't laugh, actually I fully sympathise... Who'd think a small innocent looking green plastic clip can give so much grief?? Well one wouldn't I guess, but in numbers, they're lethal... HRC99
Just couldn't quite finish it all before darkness set in. Up early to finish it off tomorrow before we go and pick up the chickens! Couple of observations on the cube. The roosting bars are as bad as everyone says. Mine had already fallen apart in transit. I do not know how on earth Omlet think they are ok. There does seem to be quite a gap in the roof join between the two sides. I've read reports of it leaking and I can see why. I'm hoping that it'll be ok but only time will tell. The other point is the instructions. It isn't optional to had a cordless screwdriver, I think it's a necessity! I'd've been knackered without one! Oh and the clips. Why so many? I am really tempted just to use ties instead. Especially as it's going to stay put.

chelsea
Great set up there! Perfect spot, all your preparation has paid off! Your chickens are going to be very happy there. The plants look fab around the cube also.
Ziggy
Oh wow it looks fantastic.... what a lovely area you've prepared for them!!! From what I understand, the leaks in the cube are usually due to the back panel, rather than the roof itself, and apparently that's been rectified, though only time and heavy rain will tell... The green clips... well my theory is that they are there solely to make what would be an otherwise easy job into a much harder job, and therefore give you extra satisfaction My DH volunteered to be the extra friend with the power tool when I built mine... I am a very stubborn person who insists on doing everything with a phillips screwdriver... I've put many furniture items together before with just a screwdriver, cause our electric srewdriver was pathetic, so DH bought a proper power tool (huge yellow thing that comes in a suitcase the size of a car and has attachments to fit every job), and I'm finally getting convinced, especially as it's both powerful and cordless!!! Your cube looks great... I bet you just can't wait to get your chickens!! You do realise we all want more pics once the chooks are in, don't you ? MedusA
Looking good so far! I can't offer any helpful advice as I don't have a cube (my set up is 2 eglus in a walk-in run), but love my new purple eglu so can empathise with your colour choice! Good luck with getting your girls today.
