Right Girls - Hair washing and not doing it with shampoo

Recommended Posts

OOoo, James could keep me awake anytime!

Anyhoo, sorry I haven't checked in here for a while, I have been distracted with potential puppy excitement and have hardly thought of my hair. My greasyness seems to be easing off now and if I rinse regularly with water its decent enough that it doesn't bother me anymore. Not great yet, but acceptable. I can't see me ever going back to shampoo now, even my overly critical mother still hasn't commented on my hair so it can't be that bad.

Well done Aylana. 8 weeks seems to be a magical time when the grease settles down. Let's hope that's the end of the misery and everyone can look forward to improving condition and shine over the next 4 weeks! :D

Hello All...me again, 9 weeks and still going strong :D . Last saturday i did a bi-carb and vinegar rinse and my hair came up really lovely. After last weeks difficulties, this weeks been a dream, i don't want to tempt fate but i feel i've turned the corner :D

I'm really pleased your in, as well Claire, interesting your slow withdrawal rather than the cold turkey thing, i hope it continues to go well :D

Ginette.. did your hair get softer again after your hair treatments earlier this week :?:

Sheila..how are things :?: Have we seen a pic of your hair :?:

Hi Anne, I'm really pleased to hear you feel you've turned the corner too. That must be such inspiration to others thinking about doing this. To know that at 8 weeks, things really are better is reassuring. And all of us have found that to be true! :):)

Thank you for asking about my hair. :) I have felt a bit of an outcast this week, as if you all felt I'd let the side down and dropped out.:cry: I haven't, I'm just going to lag a bit behind the rest of you, hopefully not too far behind.

Worst of all, I absolutely HATE the colour of my hair and wish I hadn't done it! Stupid pride! First, I couldn't get the usual dye I use so had to choose a different brand. Secondly, I think because I hadn't used chemicals on my hair for so long, the colour took really well. So my hair is really dark now. This was my natural colour when younger but it had got a lot lighter in later years. I can't really 'see' what it looks like either. The colour is so uniform that I can't tell whether it looks dirty or not, I think probably not.

I did a vinegar rinse this morning and my hair looks fine. I suspect there might be a little of that 'thick' feeling on top but otherwise it feels fairly soft again. I have worn it down today and it has felt really nice. I'm really hoping it'll just take 7-10 days to get back to how it was.

:D Lovely, interesting posts from you all, as usual, Aylana, Louise, Anne & Ginnette. I always feel inspired again when I read your stories, and was worried that I was talking to myself for a while back there!

Glad to hear you're all doing well. :D

Ginette, as far as I'm concerned, you're still in, and the colouring is just a necessary thing occasionally (assuming you mean you are still in?) Sorry to hear it wasn't what you hoped, but I'm sure it looks great, I think of you as someone with dark hair anyway, having only met you once. It's really scary when you don't quite know what the shade/intensity will be until it dries. Hope it feels better for you soon.

Well, I suppose I'm realising that my natural hair just isn't very exciting. :( So, even if you couldn't say it was greasy, it just looks drab.

It is much softer and tanglefree, but looks limp. I find the front, near the ears gives away the oil in it...looks as if it needs a wash. Although the oatmeal helps, I can't let it get wet in rain after oatmeal  and also I feel conscious of the white sheen.

I'm saving my bicarb as a treat, not too often, and hope it works just prior to special events.

I'm still a bit lost about whether the vinegar is much help for me, or when to use it.

OK, my hair looks yuk & boring today, & each day I can't decide which thing to do next; leave, rinse, oatmeal or vinegar. The vinegar makes my hair feel thin, not full bodied, but I still need to take out some oil. I think.

Sorry, I am still positive  just very confused :? and hating my hair.

Girls, another factor which I'm sure we all have is that when life is smooth, we are confident & hair is less relevant, That's why I wouldn't suggest anyone starting this if they weren't feeling great to start with. Well, then we may have worries and that's when this effort seems too much. Just want to shower all those worries away & feel good about yourself.

So, parental crisis :( on top of the usual  & I look & feel ropey. Somehow deciding whether I need vinegar or not, which may or may not work, is annoying when I need to look & feel strong.

Oops, I'd better put in a cheery post next time! :D

You're doing brilliantly Sheila. :D If you're coping with some of life's challenges at the same time as having to put all this thought and effort into how your hair is behaving, you're doing much better than most of us would manage. :? We're all allowed our less cheery days now and then you know!

..... just look at the number of hits this thread has had compared to the number of posts.

You all definately have a silent following out there 8)

 Lots of people laughing at us then?:wink:

Thanks for the support, Linda, Annie & Thalia, really appreciated your posts. Soz I was down with everything last night.

Today?

The oatmeal saw me throught the day! Thanks to Ginette for the tip of applying outdoors, it saves lots of vacuuming and the chooks love it!

I was out in the garden hidden by the chicken run door first thing this morning. I haven't told OH about this odd activity yet, so only the chooks know. They thought it was their birthday with oatmeal spraying around at 7am!

:lol: A good start to the morning for all of you then!

You probably wouldn't invoke too much of a reaction if OH was aware of you doing things like this. Aren't you at the stage (like me!) where they just think, "Oh, she's up to something weird again!!!!:roll: "

I am still doing okay :D

I can't believe how soft and tangle free it is with no conditioner for 2 weeks now

It is however still very frizzy but then it always was so I can't expect miracles  But the frizz is now more defined into curls even after sleeping on it before if I wanted it to look curled I had to wash it in the morning

That sounds good Louise! :)

My hair is feeling a bit greasy this morning and I am off, as promised, to try the egg thing! :?

I have asked OH to find out the PH number of scalp sebum, so that we can finally see whether it is acid or alkali we need to re-balance it. Don't know if he'll have any luck though!

I egged yesterday and even though i was careful about cool water this time, i still found eggy pieces in my hair  but it does look very shiny :D

Another thing i also noticed was, i'm sure my hair is starting to dry quicker. So maybe another sign of progress :?::)

I don't think I've been quite so lucky with the egg! Although still not completely dry (over 4 hours now), my hair looks as if I have smoothed a layer of dripping on it :!::shock: It didn't look like that before the egg. :( It feels soft and clean though, so I mustn't give up hope! I'll wait until it's completely dry! I haven't got any bits in it though, so I don't know what you have been doing with yours Anne!

OH has discovered that sebum is acidic in the range of 4 - 5.5 pH, so that is why the alkalines work well. Doesn't explain what has happened to me though!

I found that as well Anne its funny I get out of the shower and tip my head forward to wrap the towel round and the water all runs off I guess because my hair is coated with oils the water can't cling like it used to :?

I am really pleased as the heavy coated feeling has now gone and so far touch wood I have only had to do one bicarb :D

Hi Guys!

Sounds more and more like most of you are getting some real satisfaction now!

I MUST stress that when I recommended Oatmeal I never every meant it not to be washed out afterwards!

BUT whatever burns your particular onion ...

I'm really really glad we've started this thread. But anyone who wants to follow on in our footsteps at a later date will be hard pushed to read all (currently 50) the pages on this thread!

Wonder if it would be in order for us to condense it all in a list of instructions, recommendations and findings, to put at the top?

What do you think?

Would this be practicable?

Good to hear about the ph. So thats why the bi-carb works, but needs the acid rinse to return the ph to acidic :!:

You could be right Anne! Well thought!

May I disagree with the teacher here, Happymama! The oatmeal does not need rinsing out! It is a wonderful quick fix, I'm doing it this week. Rinsing flattens my hair, oatmeal lifts it, it would be pointless to rinse after the oatmeal. I just brush it though, it's brilliant. I'm avoiding rinsing too often as it's such a gamble. Oatmeal is just a temporary dry measure, it won't leave an effect after it's rinsed away, so it makes no sense. You can use it in the morning to give volume, you wouldn't put a volume mousse on your hair to style it & then rinse it out!

Anyway, later in the week I'll try & find time to make a new topic full of instructions. It's a great idea of yours to have the info to hand for anyone to follow. However, I'd like this topic to stay as a running discussion, and not be deleted or pruned, it's a diary for some of us, and something for the archives!

But, a separate info topic would be great, and thanks for starting this one Happymama, and putting up with rebellious pupils!:lol:
