Right Girls - Hair washing and not doing it with shampoo

Recommended Posts

Having a major bad hair day today :lol:

I fell asleep with wet ahir last night by mistake (went to bed to read and dozed off before it was dry) and it is seriously crystal tips this morning and no time to fix it

I think it will get another water wash later when I have time

Egluntine -

200ml vinegar with 800ml water

or 2 tsps bicarbonate of soda in 1/2 litre water

Only use bicarb if hair is really dirty.

My soapnut powder arrived yesterday, so I might try that at the weekend instead of shampoo or bicarb :)

Good plan! That will be interesting - do let us know what happens.

 I can see why reading the whole topic is daunting, esp. timewise. But, I think HM means without it, you might not realise all the highs & lows some of us have chronicled. It helps on the lows to realise that it is to be expected and you can overcome them. So, it would be a shame if someone reached a low & gave up the non shampooing, not realising that it's all part of the process.

One day I will do a seperate recipe/hints page but I haven't time right now, it would be helpful for those starting.

For the record, I did do a bicarb on Sat. even though my hair looked OK, as I'd planned to and needed it to be great for the next few days. It prob. wasn't needed and took a day to settle, and came out a bit too dry. My fault, but I wanted it OK for an all night wedding bash...:lol:

Apparently week 5 of no-shampoo is grease attack time, when your scalp has a bit of a panic (I haven't completely cut out shampoo yet, so I can't comment). If you can find time to read the thread, you'll have a more realistic idea of what to expect.

If I get time, I'll try to assemble a summary thread to complement this one :)

Hi All, still in , do you realise, it's nearly been five months :D

Sheila.... how much bi- carb do you use :?: we could do with finding some way of giving our hair a quick boost, without the drying effects of bi-card. Do you think a really small amount could work :?:

Sorry i haven't been on much lately, i've been just flat out busy.

Myles' hair is just the same as before poo, Peter's hair is great, i even think it looks thicker on top, he definately looks like he has more hair. So good news for the men folk, well maybe. It might just be me wearing rose coloured spectacles :!:

My hair just plods on. It's almost the same as before (pre poo), but maybe a little more tricky to manage. Sometimes i think i've cracked it, then sometimes i'm still not sure what to do.

On Friday, we go on holiday for three and half weeks, i'm taking bi-carb, small bottle of vinegar and i might pack some emergency oatmeal. I'm relly not too sure :?

Anne :)

Do give it a try Eglutine. :)

I am nearing the end of week 5. I do rinse every day in the shower and I use a vinegar rinse once a week and a bicarb rinse every couple of weeks. I do use a bit from a tub of oatmeal mixed with a few drop of rose geranium essential oil every couple of days to remove any greasy appearance. I suppose I mess with it quite a bit raher than just rinse.

I can't say that my hair is always perfect but it was not when i used shampoo either. OH says it looks fine and does not smell. It does feel thicker and better behaved. I do wear it up most of the time.

I have the dreaded week 5 to face soon, so watch this space

I've posted a summary thread for newcomers (and forgetful people like myself):

http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6288

Please let me know if I've got anything wrong, or add any good ideas I've missed. Also, it would be great if a moderator could make it sticky!

Cheers

Anne

I've made it a sticky and locked it Anne - just let one of the moderators know if you think you need to add anything else.

I'd just like to add that my hair definitely feels thicker. My hairdresser commented on that too. I had my highlights done recently, which then required shampoo in the treatment but the hair settled down pretty quickly afterwards.

I have now gone over 11 weeks and am very satisfied.

Excellent!

I decided to do a vinegar whilst staying overnight in Brighton. Shep asked me this morning...is this your plastic measuring jug, what did you bring it here for?

I just mumbled something about pouring to rinse my hair (although there was a lovely shower, so it didn't make sense).

Poor man walked off with that look as if to say, I knew I shouldn't have asked, obviously one of those things I'll never understand about womwn, and batty wife in particular.

Doesn't everyone pack a 30 yr old plastic jug in their overnight bag then?:lol:

Sheila, your antics really make me laugh!:lol:

I vinegared on Wednesday and by Thursday evening my hair looked dirty. Today it has looked really bad and I have kept it s"Ooops, word censored!"ed into a high pony tail. I have booked a haircut on Tuesday, so I'm hoping to hold out until Monday when I can bicarb. in preparation.

I am still quite down about it all. My hair never looks clean and bouncy now unless I bicarb. It seems to be lifeless and I'm not used to that. :(

Get behind me Satan :shock::!:

Temptation!

I'm thinking of trying soapnuts on my hair (but I haven't bought any yet). One point is not to put chemicals on my hair, the other is to save the neccessity of having to wash hair every day (or even twice a week). It would be lovely if my hair just looked great all on its own. That is what we were promised in the beginning and that is why I haven't used shampoo for nearly 5 months. (Yuk! I hear you cry!)

The truth is though, that vision is beginning to fade for me. The promise is not coming true yet and I'm not happy with the way my hair looks now. 'How much longer?' I am asking. 'Am I nearly there yet?'
