Busybird
Can anyone advise how to get rid of a pheasant that has taken to visiting my garden and eating my chicken's food? I keep my chickens in an eglu with extended run but they free range in a small fenced off area of my garden near the house when I am home which is most of the day. The run door is left open so that they can get at their glug and grub containers and get into the eglu to lay those precious eggs. The pheasant has been spotted over the last couple of days. It goes into the run and helps itself from the grub container. It doesn't seem to bother the chickens but I don't want to be feeding it my chicken food! It will not go when I bang on the window so I am having to go outside every time I see it to chase it away - very annoying. Has anyone else had this problem? CatsCube
No, but if I were you I would shoot it and eat it. I love pheasant
Christian
We had a baby pheasant visit a few months ago and my girls completely ignored it. The same chap (we think its the same chap, now called Philip ) came back recently and all 5 girls attacked him You should have seen it! 5 chickens doing ninja style jumps onto his back. He still loiters around occasionally but doesn't dare go into the chicken area now. Hopefully with Spring around the corner, your pheasant will find enough food and stop nicking your chickens food? Busybird
So I guess I should just leave the chickens to sort it out and chill about the 'wasted' pellets. My nine year old son would agree with the shooting option. He asked for an air rifle when I mentioned the danger of foxes and this morning offered to capture the pheasant in the run and wring it's neck . I pointed out that I wouldn't have a clue how to pluck, gut and prepare one to eat but he was confident that he could do all this for me
