andymospit
Good news, my miss pepperpot laid her first egg this afternoon, however it's shell is soft, is this normal for a first time layer ?
Christian
Congratulations Andy! yes it is quite normal for them to lay a few softies at first until they get into the swing of things. I'm sure she will lay 'proper' eggs soon.

HasSumAmi
be patient the eggs will come. I'm patient as we were told they would be at least 5 or 6 weeks before they started to lay. Their comb and wattles are getting bigger, but still small, and they are not crouching yet. DH definitely thinks they should be earning their keep and keeps threatening to roast them. This makes our youngest daughter very cross, so he says it even more as he thinks she's really funny when she gets cross! (I have to confess she really IS very funny when she gets cross!) This makes our youngest daughter very cross How old is your daughter? Perhaps it's time to teach her a few Wiles? In this case, maybe she should agree that they should be roasted if they don't start laying. If necessary, she could then gol on to asking questions such as "So, how would you kill them?", "How do you get the feathers off?" "What do you do with their insides". One word of caution though. Many many years ago my very young cousin couldn't say the word "pyjamas", he used to call them "japamas". I helped him to say the proper word, and regretted it ever since, as Japamas was such a lovely word. I use it myself now, actually.
HasSumAmi
How old is your daughter? Perhaps it's time to teach her a few Wiles? She's six and quite wiley enough!! She's the youngest and has us all wrapped around her little finger! Love the Japamas! I still remember my son's ong gu (orange juice) and app loo (apple juice). So lovely when they mix up words!
