pelicano
I'm really pleased for you - I know what it's like. My self-esteem during my late teens and early twenties was rock bottom purely because I felt everyone was looking at me and thinking how dreadful my skin was.(They probably weren't) Hopefully you're not as paranoid as I was! Oh yes, definitely - I grew up intensely paranoid that everyone was looking at my skin (and had a few tactless comments at school too - you can imagine! ). It was at its worst when I went to university, probably due to eating really badly, staying up late, drinking, etc, but since I discovered the more natural way of looking after it, it improved (probiotics, essential oils etc). Nothing ever helped with the excessive oil though, till now.
Yorkshire Pudding
I've just stumbled across this thread and found it very very interesting - I've never ever been able to rely on my skin to be clear (except when I was pregnant but that's a bit for a skincare routine). The idea made complete sense, rather than stripping out natural oils and then desperately trying to replace them with moisturiser, clean your skin without stripping it. I tried the hot flannel method with sweet almond oil, as my skin is prone to be dry, flaky and spotty all at once and I thought it might be a bit oversensitive for castor oil. It feels marvellous, so I'll persevere and hope for the same good results as some of you other posters have had. My hands feel softer too! Omlet truly is the source of everything a girl needs to know (and then some)!
pelicano
I'm so pleased that some of you are continuing to try this and are getting good results. Since I changed my routine to the morning and evening one I mentioned in an earlier post, I am stunned at how good my skin is. I'll probably never be spot free, but a couple of spots on my entire face is fine by me. Yippee!!! Of course, I can't help but kick myself now for all those years I wasn't doing this! gracefruit
I've been using this method for over three years and it's great! My favourite blend is: 80% castor 10% hazelnut 10% avocado Elizabeth x
Olly
I'm really pleased with this method, especially because I now know exactly what I'm putting on my face (and it's cheaper than some of the expensive stuff I've bought before). In the morning I need to apply moisturiser. Can any of you recommend one that isn't too crammed with chemicals? I really need one with a high SPF factor as I have fair skin and I've already suffered sun damage.
AJuff
What oil would you suggest for combination skin? Greasy nose/chin and dry everywhere else? I've tried castor and sunflower but it leaves my skin dry.
pelicano
How much castor oil did you use though? Was it half and half? If so, I'd go for a lower proportion of castor oil, as that is the drying one.
Olly
I don't use castor oil at all now - just a massage base (almond oil). You should find that the greasy nose/chin becomes less greasy after you've been using this method a while.
gracefruit
Avocado oil is also good if you find the castor too drying. Olive is another great oil. It's not a bad idea to have 2-3 oil blends to hand. Most people's skin will be different from day to day, so the same oils might not work well on a daily basis.
Charlottechicken
***This company*** appear to champion the oil cleansing method, and if you sign up in June you get 8 little free samples off them, along with a booklet. I signed up a couple of days ago and received two tiny soaps and six other samples, four of which are oils. I haven't checked the ingredients of their products so if you are cautious it's probably best to check the website before signing up
Blackrocksrock
I only now wash with water in the shower on my face and use coconut oil as moisturiser/cleanser only and my face is much better and no dry flaky bits and my hands are softer too. aliski
I have just (3 days) started my daughter 14yrs old on this. Her skin was not too bad but very 'bumpy' under the skin of her forehead. Used the free samples I had sent for but than tried everywhere to get caster oil. According to Boots and the organic shop you cant get it anymore??!! Any suugestios either to get caster oil or what others could I use. Last night she just used sunflower oil from the kitchen! and the skin seems really good. Olly
I got mine from the pharmacy in my local Morrisons! I did have trouble getting it, although Boots offered to order it for me. In fact I found it quite drying, and I don't use it now - I am using a massage base oil (I think it's almond oil, but not sure).
pelicano
Yes, castor oil is quite drying - if I had dry skin, I probably wouldn't use it at all, even in a low concentration. For my oily skin, I can tolerate 50/50 with jojoba. Am thinking of trying out safflower oil at the moment too, but wondering if I should rock the boat! One bottle of oil was totally smashed on arrival and despite two emails they have failed to respond. I will not be buying from them again. Guest
Now, how have I missed this thread? It seems to have started when I was in hospital having Squidger, but I've never noticed it until now. I have quite sensitive skin - I get patches of psoriasis sometimes, and have quite rosy cheeks. I may give this a go - what do you use as a moisturiser after, or do you not need to use one if you get the oil balance right?
Snowy
I find I don't always need a moisturiser afterwards Chookie. If I do, I just apply a tiny bit more oil and leave on. If I've been well oiled in the evening (no comments please!) then all my face needs next morning is a wipe with a warm damp cloth and my skin feels lovely, no extra moisturiser needed. Cinnamon
I have missed it too Chookiehen Interesting though. I have used Decleour Neroli facial oil for years. It smells like heaven & my skin is pretty good. I may well try to persuade Cleo, who is 13 & getting a bit of a problem with congested skin,to try this.

pelicano
In answer to the question about moisturiser, some people just put a little more oil on, but with my oily skin I really don't need to use anything more than what I've rinsed off. Guest
I managed to get a bottle of castor oil from Boots in Berwick-Upon-Tweed today with no problems - they had a whole drawer of it behind the counter! I'm going to get chookiehubbie to take a picture of my face tonight, then do this cleansinf technique for a fortnight and take another one, and compare - hopefully I'll see a difference.
