Where to get plastic bag alternative?

Recommended Posts

OH's Mum saw some good fold-up black canvas bags for about 30-50p at Tesco a while back. She looked yesterday and they didn't have them.

Where is a good place to get these alternative to supermarket bags from? We want maybe 6 for supermarket shopping as want to move away from plastic bags.

Fold up and plain would be good and not saying TESCO in big letters, maybe a green message? :?

I got a few super little bags from Claires accessories.

They fold up really small (pocket size) but are very roomy. They come in their own little pouch which I clip onto the handle of the bag and use it to put the receipts in.

think they costs about £1.50 each. Claires had a selection of colours and patterns or plain.

The bag measures 40cm x 44cm and the pouch measures 13cmx7cm

...or buy some of Snowy's bags - they fold up small as well.

I have those and some of the Claire's Accessories ones for when I need something that folds away. I also have the big Jute bags and quite a few calico ones for when I have planned to go shopping.

I have a BHWT bag (cost £4.95 but worth every penny), it holds quite a bit of my food shopping, I also have one of the Omlet ones.

I also have one of the Claire's Accessories bags, and a friend gave me a similar one from Superdrug, I think.

Most shops seem to sell all types of bags, but sometimes you have to hunt around for them. Try those cheap shops that sell bits of everything too, they usually sell those large red/white or blue/white check ones that you see people carting large amounts of shopping in

If your near an IKEA they do some great bags at a really cheap price. I think the really big ones are about £1. They fold up really small and carry loads. The only trouble is if you shop at Tesco you only get 1 green point and you can fit almost all your shopping in it!

If you use a big bag at Tesco - say '1 LARGE bag' - and they give you 2 points

I've been using 2 "cube shaped" bags I got from www.lakeland.co.uk years ago- they have worn really well and hold so much more than the Sainsbury ones you get when you register for the self scanning. Much more practical for cereal boxes. Only good for a car though- wouldn't like to have to carry them too far!! I use cloth shoulder bag that came from oxfam when I go into town to shop.
