Fur 'n' Feathers
We've just got back from the Manchester Velodrome where we've spent the last 5 days spectating the World Championships for track cycling .... and what an amazing time For those that donb't already know (ha! ha! - at last some general news coverage for this sport ) Great Britain won 9 Gold Medals (out of a possible eighteen) and 2 Silver medals in events they did not win Golds in . This meant a 1st or 2nd place in 11/18 events. Of those we did not win we got a 4th, 6th and 7th in 3 other events. This result has never been achieved before by ANY country . We thought last year was good enough with 7 Golds. In addition, Chris Hoy is now the first cyclist EVER to have won Golds in all 4 power events. Well done This is why we could not collect our hens before next Monday.... We'd have been away as soon as they arrived. Roll on next Monday The atmosphere in the Velodrome was ELECTRIC. ROLL ON BEJING
AnnieP
It is brilliant isn't it? Although I hear there is a hue and cry about the lack of spectators' tickets that are going to be issued to British supporters over there?
Karen & co.
Fantastic I bet the atmosphere was electric, one of the girls Shanaze Reade lives not far from us Karen x

Yeah. She was amazing Don't know if it showed on TV, but she was utterly spent when she got off her bike after getting the Silver yesterday. Her legs kept going from underneath her & she needed help to walk off the track. We were sat opposite the GB enclosure and watched her describing her wobbly legs to Anna Blyth after she got down on the floor following her TV interview What a sacrifice
Fur 'n' Feathers
Hooray - another cycling fan on the forum! Actually Tina C, 2 other cycling fans . Fur introduced me to the sport 26 years ago and I'm hooked. He cycled for a club as a junior and I still polish the shields - Feathers
AJuff
Lucky you! We'd loved to have been there but as it is still term time we couldn't be there. I bought my husband a few hours in the veledrome for his birthday last year. We went down to Manchester and had a lovely afternoon there, not to mention the rest of the weekend to explore. Tina C
I am running a bit instead - I don't have the time to train to the same level (I am an old mum too...) so it does not feel right. Will take up touring when I retire and the child leaves home.
Ain't Nobody Here
Another family of cycling fans here . We all watch the Tour de France avidly (OH watches all the Tours he can ) and saw 3 days of it when we were in France a couple of years ago - it was brilliant . Off to Italy for a cycling holiday in July (I've not been on my bike for months and months, so a bit of training is needed ). Oh, and Chris Hoy went to my sons' school - he came back to give a talk last year!
Fur 'n' Feathers
Do you know we've had more positive responses about cycling from this forum than anywhere else that we've mentioned it Most peoples' eyes seem to glaze over when we mention cycling.... but then they do when we mention chickens We're obviously in good company here. By the way, how about Chris Hoy for Sports Personality of the Year and Vicky Pendleton for Sportswoman of the Year Vote vote vote
