Stevie
Today was the first time since getting the Eglu & chooks on friday that they've come right close to each other without the wire run.I was never really concerned anyway cause Vegas (my dog) is a placid boy and despite being 40kgs of pure muscle-he's soft as the perverbial poo. He was more intrested in eating the chooks poop! Sage & Onion however were their normal inquisitive self and into everything. They have grown so used to him wandering about garden they didnt pay any attention to him at all.Im teaching them a recall command by saying "chooky chooky chooky chooky" which is working! First proper encouter! Eating some seed on my picnic bench! Looking comfy? Checking their garden out.
Ain't Nobody Here
Lovely photos . Glad your dog 'n' chooks are getting on . BTW, that's a very posh treat bowl your girls get their seed in .
moomin
gosh they've got tame really quickly, they look really at home in you garden after only 3 days - and OK with your dog too - that's what I call progress!!
Stevie
gosh they've got tame really quickly, they look really at home in you garden after only 3 days - and OK with your dog too - that's what I call progress!! Onion the Gingernut is fearless and will follow me around the garden and even keep pecking my fingers for food if i stand still, but Sage the Pepperpot is still timid and runs off if i try to stroke her.I still pick her up (when i can!) so she gets used to being handled, but i guess she'll take longer to tame. So on the whole-im pleased with how both chooks & dog have interacted with each other.
Snowy
Lovely pics Stevie! Your garden glows doesn't it! They do reckon that the biggest problem with gingernut hens is trying not to fall over them!
chelsea
well, your girls look right at home dont they?!!! Your dog is like mine - very good with them. I think the bigger and scarier the dog looks the softer they are with the chooks.

I think the bigger and scarier the dog looks the softer they are with the chooks. My dog does have a fondness for rabbits and squirrels...if you know what i mean, but he tends to leave anything with feathers alone.Sage the Pepperpot flapped her wings at him and made that certain sound when he got too close to her rear end-which made him run off! But yes-they do look at home dont they and spend a lot of time on my decking for some reason.Logic would say they'd prefer the lawn or borders? Egluntyne
Lovely pictures. That orange Eglu sets a warm tone doesn't it? My hens don't get a crystal bowl....they get a beige dog bowl.
chickenlass
Good job my girls haven't seen the crystal bowl... they only get a tin plate with their treats on. Lovely pictures and your garden is so pretty.
poachedegg
Your chickens and dog look nice and settled and your garden is lovely. I've just received our Eglu today (ya!ya!) - it is a pink one. Chickens to follow. I have bought a bright pink treat bowl off ebay which came today and it matches perfectly.........needless to say OH thinks I'm going a bit OTT
Pookylover
Your chickens are beautiful colours! The feathers are so glossy. I hope my dog is as good with mine. He is 13 this year and always had 'selective' hearing when he was younger but is deaf for real now! We have such a job to attract his attention if he is not looking at us but then he even ignores you! Think it's just a man thing! Trixabell
Fab pictures, Bob still baits them outside the run by kicking his back legs, makes me laugh because when Martha pecked him on the nose thru the wire this morning he really played it up like he was a wounded lil soldier!!! Stevie
They've been exploring again today and they're getting so cheeky! This shows how well a so called 'scary' looking dog gets on with chooks. and now they tap at my backdoor!
Trixabell
they really are fab pics, that first one made me chuckle x
superjules
Mine get their treats in a beige Mason and Cash pet food bowl. Your garden is lovely - your shed looks like a little beach hut. Wonderful!
Ain't Nobody Here
What brilliant pictures . Looks like your poor "little" dog went up on the table to hide from the big scary chickens - but they followed him up there .
Stevie
I cant believe how tame they've become after only 4 days and how quickly they've accepted a large dog too.Onion the ranger is especially fearless and will follow me around the garden waiting for something to eat.Sage the Pepperpot still keeps her distance, but she didnt panic when i picked her up earlier so is an improvement. They seem to spend more time though on my decking rather than foraging about garden which is odd.I gave them some more wild bird seed again which makes them go nuts though so i guess they're associating me with tasty treats.
