The Dogmother
Yes, thanks Tamsin, I have bought the magazine, but not read the article yet. The newbies are settling in well and eyeing the oldies warily through the mesh of the Rablu run. At the moment I am having nest problems in the Eglu - both Layla and Ruby have gone broody so the nest box is 'bed-blocked' all the time, despite my chucking them off whenever I can. Dolly has decided to 'go private' and has started laying round the garden. Thankfully, the garden isn't too big and I can find them, but when the foliage grows up I will have to send Rosie out looking for them. I have made another nest box out of an old washing up bowl and it's in the Eglu now. Ther's still plenty of room for everyone to sleep, although the broodies are acting like stroppy, hormonal teenagers and shouting at anyone who tries to get in the Eglu I might just have t get one of the new mark 3 eglus! Rosie doesn't know about the newbies yet, she is at her dad's this weekend and it wil be her easter surprise when she comes back on Monday. evening. Sonja, I soft boil a 38g banty egg for 2.5 minutes, and hard boil them for 3.5 minutes, but yours will probbaly be smaller, so you'll just have to judge it and see how you get on. Mel, sorry, no real photos at the moment - my PC is stowed away for the building work, but I will enthuse for Paul. Little Lavinia has been funny and clingy with the newbies around - she has been following me round ike a kitten which left it's mother too young. I picked her up yesterday for a cuddle and she was in my arms, on her back, snuggled down ike a baby for ages while I did stuff with one hand - soo cute. Anyway, must get off Phil's Mac as he needs to do some work. Have to get back to the mess at home, and get ready to do the Thame show tomorrow with the gorgeous Johannes PS, thanks for all the emails about being a mod - I will do it, just not at the moment with everything that's going on at home and at work. i hope that all the new mods are doing well and enjoying it. chocchick
I use my Eggxact scales but they just say "error" for Trinnys 80g+ eggs I don't know if light eggs would be "error" too, or if it would be useful
The Dogmother
Got our first egg from 'the minnies' as Rosie calls them yesterday - a perfect small white egg. I suspect that it was from Fleur (the white one) as she is known to be laying and looks more mature. Having said that, this morning Lucille was in and out of the Eglu, so she might have got the idea.
