hpops
I let my chickens out this morning to free range and when I took them out some sweetcorn out I noticed that Rosie my RIR cross (not sure what crossed with!!) has white fluff round the base of her beak - I picked her up to try and pick it off thinking that she'd stuck her head somewhere silly and got covered in something - and much to my surprise it seemed to be growing from her beak????? Has anyone come across this??

Egluntyne
Hmmmmmmm........I'm wondering if it is a fungal infection or beak necrosis. TBH I would take her to the vet as either will probably need medication. She looks perky enough.
Blackrocksrock
Looks like fungus - is there something stuck there which is going mouldy?
hpops
weirdly enough I went out there 5 minutes later and it had gone - I had a good look at the beak and it looks fine!!! I think she may have had something stuck to her beak?
Ain't Nobody Here
Whew, necrosis didn't sound good . Perhaps she was munching on some Old Man's Beard?

Lesley
It could have been a feather which was stuck tight for a while. Glad it has gone!
