Just did an interesting shopper survey for Tesco

Recommended Posts

I'm on the Shoppers Thoughts scheme where you get extra Clubcard points for doing surveys for Tesco.

I've just done one all about the labelling of the Willow Farm whole chickens.

Needless to say, I was rather scathing about the fact the label suggests much better welfare standards and almost suggests free range production.

Lots of questions were about whether I thought it would be tastier than other Tesco chicken ranges and some asked about whether I would be more likely to buy it than the chicken I currently buy (given that i never buy meat from Tesco and try not to shop there at all it's not likely I'll swap to Willow Farm!)

Part of it was about the name 'Willow Farm' - did I prefer that or the other options 'Barn-reared Willow Farm' or 'Better for Chickens'

It also asked if the RSPCA freedom food stamp would improve the chances of me buying it (er, no!)

Anyway, it's good that they're responding to comments and seeking consumer thoughts on it

I am still seething from the time that a member of staff told me that Willow Farm was free range .........& then confirmed this with the manager

I have often thought that its packed & labelled badly. The muthed colours make it look 'natural' & wholesome, & the name conjurs up images of happy hens, doesn't it?

I went to Tesco, Archer Road, Sheffield yesterday and asked a person who identified himself as manager, why they were no longer stocking Method cleaning products.

He looked me in the eye and told me with the straightest of faces that it had been rebranded as Ecover. :?

When I pointed out that this was in fact incorrect....he merely shrugged and walked away.

I was less than impressed.

Waitrose here I come.

Waitrose here I come.

I've been using Ocado for home shopping since I started my Tesco semi-boycott and the increase in price is worth the nicer products and shopping experience. However, I did go in Asda this morning for a fairly big shop and only spent £60 whereas if I'd gone into Tesco, Sainsburys or Waitrose it would have been double that (mainly because everything looks nicer so I'd have bought more!)

It's hard to balance getting value for money with making the 'right' choices, isn't it?

We moved over to Waitrose when they opened a shop locally as we don't really like Sainsbury's or Tesco.

Although the prices are higher, the produce is fresher and lasts longer so we've actually found that our monthly shopping bill has dropped by about 100 quid

I do have to say that we eat vegetarian food 5 days out of 7. My OH won't give up meat entirely and I won't buy anything other than free range, organic. I guess if we had to buy more meat, the shopping would be much more.

I've started getting occasional bits in M&S (the free range creme eggs started it ) and need so much self control as would buy loads as love their food, but it is expensive and not near a car park. If it can be it is fair trade, organic, free range, or recycled. I like the feeling that I don't have to scrutinise/look so hard to get the things I want. I get quite excited in Waitrose too and want to buy luxury items. If I had more restraint and bought less quality food it might work out similar, but I get carried away.
