4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi

 

Our 3 girls have been re-housed temporarily whist we were having some building work carried out. They went to a friend who had only one chook. After a few weeks, My 3 girls accepted Gromit (my friends chook) and now the four of them are inseparable. Gromit has even started laying again after 6 months without eggs.

 

My question is:- We are going to collect our 3 girls this weekend and I don't know how it will affect Gromit leaving her on her own. Do we take her? (not to sure if my Friend will allow that) or do we leave one of ours so we have 2 each.

 

Any advise would be appreciated - I just don't want any chooks upset.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

 

Why not suggest to your friend that you take all 4.

 

Really hens should not live a solitary life, and so she would be better off as part of this little flock. I imagine she might pine and be lonely when your girls leave.

 

Perhaps you could buy your friend a couple of hens (company for each other) in exchange for her....just a thought.

Yeah I would agree with Egluntine, it's not very healthy for a chicken to be on it's own - potentially causing it to become very depressed.

 

I would rehome it with your 3, and then if your friend wants more chickens then they should get some new ones all at the same time to ease problems of re-introducing new ones to Gromit again!!

if your friends chicken had stopped laying anyway why dont you buy her a new one that does lay and you keep all four. that way everyone is happy

thanks for all your replies. My husband usually posts, so hopefully i'm replying correctly.

 

I dont think we will take all 4 chooks as our garden has shrunk considerably since the building work.. so maybe leave one of ours and have 2 each... hopefully they will be happy in pairs.
