How do you dunk a chicken??

Recommended Posts

HI guys!

Henrietta Hen has been broody for over a week now. I'm anxious to get her to snap out of it because I have exbattery girls which I want to introduce and I'm afraid the broodyness will make henrietta more aggressive to them.

Ive been trying ice packs and chucking her off the net.

I'm now going to resort to dunking her.......... but I'm not sure how!

Can anybody help please?

DO I have to hold her in the water, or is it just a quick in and out?

Do I put her whole body in, or just her tummy?

How often are you meant to do it?

Is she going to hate me forever? (Shes already the least tame of my girls)

Any other tips?

Not looking forward to it :?

To be honest,I have never found dunking to be much fun or very effective

The thing that works for me is the broody cage.

get a nice open cage - like a cat carrier, & put said hen in it, with it elevated on a brick at each corner to get her knickers all draughty

Leave her in it day & night (with or without food, but with water), & she will brood no more.

Almost guaranteed!

You will feel a mean old bag & she will give you sheep eyes, but you need to ignore her & stick to your guns.

:shock::shock:

Wot's sheep eyes look like then????

I have dunked Gucci but it was on day one of her going all stupid and broody - up to her tummy in cold water for a minute. I think the fact she seriously couldnt believe I'd done that snapped her out of it!!!

(dont think I got sheep eyes though)
