Guest
I planted some cucumber seeds earlier this year, and am delighted to say that all of them have reached the 5 leaf stage, so have planted them out into growbags in the greenhouse. I have 2 questions though; Is it easy to tell the difference between the male and female flowers - it says it is a hybrid that shouldn't produce male flowers, but to remove any if they appear, but I can't find anyone who knows what they look like. Also, should they be getting trained up canes, or left alone?
ubereglu
I think you're supposed to train them up some canes, and they'll grow as long/high as the cane reaches. I don't know anything about fe/male flowers on one though.
Lesley-Jean
The female flowers have a "baby" cucumber behind the flower, male flowers only have the flower stem.
Hellcat
Have you grown courgettes before? The lady flowers have a little cuke coming behind them, the male ones don't. we grew them outside last year and trained them up a cane (did rather well actually). Guest
Thanks everyone! I'm a total novice when it comes to veggies, apart from tomatoes, which I am hugely successful at!
