ok when i put my name down for the 6 ex batts she told me about 4 weeks wait and its only been 10 days! im amazed, but grossly unprepared lol.

 

i pick up the house on saturday- but what else do i absoloutly need from the word go? help!!!

You don't need absolutely everything that you read about on the forum from the outset.....just buy things as the need arises, otherwise you will bankrupt yourself.

yeah it has been quick, i dont know why the essex group seems so fast but im not complaining!!

 

will i need a seperate feeder/hopper for the grit or do i mix it?

Sarah, I got mine a month earlier than expected and found out 6 days before so I was in mega panic mode -lol

 

I put extra grit mixed in with the food and also in a seperate container. Oh, and I also bought pellets and ground them up in my blender instead of buying mash.

I too am on the Surrey waiting list but I know that some people have got theirs already from that rescue so I phoned BHWT today and am waiting for a reply for a pick up date........

Don't panic - not as big as you think.

 

We went with a cat carrier and the box that had my printer in it. We only needed the one box and used the printer box - they had ample room in it (6 chooks) and the breeder said we could have got 10 in there easily.

 

Just a reasonable sized cardboard box that you can cut some slits in for air holes, put some newspaper and bedding in the bottom and be able to shut and tape up the top (we took some selotape / duck tape with us).

i throw all my boxes away.... i wonder if my MIL still has her microwave box... that should be big enough??

More than big enough I would say. Or do you have a pet carrier or something that could be used. Could always ask in Somerfield or somewhere like that - places used to keep boxes, not so sure they do now though.

thats great because i have saved the microwave box- woop woop! well i told hubby to grab it from by the bin last night.

 

so i saw my neighbour at the shop and swallowed the lump in my throat and asked her if she minded living next to chooks... .... she was in awe, "oh my god of course not" then she started saying about the lovely eggs etc and then she said "i used to keep chickens- i miss keeping them so much!" then she was dropping hints about any spare eggs she would be more than happy to have- and even better she has just joined the parish council- so im guessing i wont have any trouble on that front either

i am very excited now!!!! i cant wait im a bit apprehensive as to what sort of state they will be in when they arrive but i cant wait to ee the change in them when they have been here a few weeks
