We've been keeping a record of the egg-laying since the girls started. As we have no previous experience, we don't know if this is a usual pattern (possibly for hybrids) or if our girls have done particularly well. Also, there appears to be a definite difference between breeds re. size and softies/regularity, but it may settle down with time as they're still young (24 weeks old). It might be helpful to have comments/feedback from others with experience to bring a balance. Krasi: 36g, 37g, 59g,42g, softie, softie, softies, 45g, 46g, 46g, softie, 46g, 46g, 49g, 47g, 48g, 51g, nil, 47g, 2 softies, 48g, nil, 48g, nil, 54g, 53g. Kilo: 37g, 2 softies, 63g, 49g, 51g, 46g, 50g, 52g, 52g, 51g, 49g, 56g, 51g, 52g, 54g, 59g, 56g, 55g, 55g. I've only been keeping a tally of numbers over the last week or so as we had a problem with softies. Ebony has laid every day since she started all about 50g Ruby has laid every day too and hers range from 60-86g couple double yolkers! I have a monthly chart printed out by the egg box, for daily weigh & record and then transfer on to spreadsheet monthly. I am sure the data is very interesting to us - I just think the others in my family feel it is a bit sad 'mum its an egg' springs to mind. You're info looks about right Fur'n'Feathers The eggs do tend to get gradually bigger. Dare I ask them to weigh each egg? They also need to examine them carefully to decide who's is who. We'll just have to have a gap in the chart... Now we know that we're not alone Thanks everyone for the feedback. Good to know our chooks are doing okay & that we can expect it to continue. ANH, the prize has to go to your post as it's brought everyone out of the woodwork and also, it's SO compelling that we'll have to convert ours from table to spreadsheet What a "sad" bunch we Omleteers are....................(Awww!...Who cares!) Lisa33 wrote a very descriptive list of what colour eggs she got on which days for me when we were away! I allocated them as the average weight on my spreadsheet that ANH very kindly created for me. You may mock, Egluntine, but from my spreadsheet I can tell that Magpie has only had 1 day off laying since she started 7 weeks ago , and that Sylvie always lays for 10/11 days then takes 2 days off and subsequently is my laziest girl, maybe because she's the greediest ! I think if I had kept records last year I would have known earlier that there was something seriously wrong with Marigold, not that the outcome would have been any different. TBH I can only identify which hen lays which egg in about 50% of my girls. many of them are so similar....so I'd fall at that fence anyway. Good luck to you. I have to accompany a kid from my school who goes to mainstream maths lessons - they were doing spreadsheets so I then went home and practiced .
