ONE OF MY CHICKENS HAS RUNNY POO. I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS YET, BUT IT'S GREEN/YELLOW IN COLOUR AND FROTHY ALMOST LIKE CINDER TOFFEE. SHOULD I MONITER IT OR SEEK FURTHER HELP. I ONLY GOT MY CHICKENS ON SUNDAY, SO IS IT THAT THEY ARE ONLY SETTLING IN. I'VE GOT THEM ON GRASS ASWELL IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Egluntyne
Hello and welcome to the forum. Please would you turn your caps lock off? Ta muchly. It could be the grass that is giving them the squits, as they are new and won't have been used to it before. Also the excitement of the move can jiggle their innards a little. I would not overdo it with treats at this stage, just keep them on pellets and a handful of sweetcorn or similar to lure them back into the run in the afternoon, once you start letting them out. There is a product called Bokashi Bran which you can get from the Omlet Shop and elsewhere on the internet. If you add a handful of that to their pellets it will calm their poo down and stop it smelling too. Every 10th poo comes from a different part of the gut and is like chip shop curry sauce and stinks to high heaven but is perfectly normal. Welcome to the world of chicken keeping. dogs and chickens
Every 10th poo comes from a different part of the gut and is like chip shop curry sauce and stinks to high heaven but is perfectly normal. Hello and welcome to the forum! I have no idea why there poop would be like that except because of the move! I just found what Egluntine said really interesting I have often wondered why they have the squits sometimes then normal poop again! Golly Egluntine you know everything

Hey dare I ask whether this is on your spreadsheet as well, which one is due the sqwitty poo today - I hadn't really noticed much about mines poo's except really when it lands in the water bowl. A bientot.
Egluntyne
I don't do spreadsheets. That is ANH and Snowy's territory.
MadMitch
Glad you posted this as I have one with a orange frothy poo and I did notice that it is worse after eating grass. Sad isn't it but after a week of poo picking I can now walk round my pen and know instantly who's poo is who's.

I have no idea what so ever who's poo is who's Is that one of those like who laid that egg? You don't know till you see it I have to say I'm not sure doing the who's who in the poop world is half as exciting as the egg world
mand and family
Thank you everyone for your replies its good to know someone is there for our questions! I didn't really say alot last night because it was late and I was worried about me chucks! We finallly got our cube on the 14/05/08 (there was a waiting list I think!) and have been looking around our local area for chickens. Everyone has sold out or is still waiting for chicks from the hatcheries. I think its because the trend for chickens has only just started up this way! Any way we finally tracked some down near York and collected them on Sunday. We've started with six chickens which I think my be too many but they are lovely girls and wouldn't be without now. We may increase this later as we get more experienced. I love the look of the 'blue orpington' (have I spelt this correctly) are they hard to keep PS sorry about caps still finding my way on the forum! MedusA
Thank you for sharing "Egluntine's guide to poo identification". I didn't know that about the 10th poo either. This forum is an endless mine of information!
..lay a little egg for me
Every 10th poo comes from a different part of the gut and is like chip shop curry sauce and stinks to high heaven but is perfectly normal. Could this be added to the FAQs somewhere? These korma poos had me worried for quite a while when I got my girls and it took quite a bit of searching to find out that they are normal. I have seen others posting with the same questions! It would be nice to add it to the Omelet info pages and/or Wiki too!
Seagazer
Thanks from me too Eglutine - I was getting worried and spent way too long watching my chucks bottoms looking for the 'poorly' chicken
Abbey Road Girl
Egluntine should go on Mastermind! John Humphries: "And your specialised subject is...?" Egluntine: "Chicken poo..." Why not, Egluntine? Henkeeping is at least as legit a topic as something like Russian Heraldry in the time of Catherine the Great or 20th Century Trans-Atlantic Musical Theatre. You know you want to! Egluntyne
Erm......Thanks.....I think. If you don't mind, I'll not bother...... I'm in witness protection and don't want to blow my cover by going on national TV.
