Not having much luck with Freecycle. I found on Freecycle some topsoil, so I emailed the lady straight away to enquire. She emailed back and said that I could have it. I said that I would come back with a time to pick it up, as I had to wait for hubby to get in to help. I explained that if hubby was late getting in, I would not ring her late in the evening (being the considerate soul that I am) and that I would contact her first thing in the morning.

 

Hubby was late getting in, so I emailed her first thing in the morning asking if I could come round - no reply. I left several messages on her phone - no reply. Eventually I received an email late afternoon, saying that someone else had taken it as she hadn't heard from me!!!

 

I couldn't believe it - it obviously doesn't pay to be so considerate!!!! You would have thought that she would have kept her word seeing as I was the first one to contact her.

That is naughty, especially as you'd been explicit in your instructions when you left it last night. She should really have contacted you before giving it to someone else.

 

I've had situations like this before and have emailed the site admin.. not that I got a response

 

I offered a box of jam jars a few weeks ago and a lady contacted me to say that she'd take them, but then promptly went offline so that I couldn't confirm anything with her. I emailed her to say that I had several offers and that if I hadn't heard by a nominated time, then they would go to the next person who had been in touch. I felt that was only fair, especially as she eventually got back to me day later!

I had problems with Freecycle the other way round, ie people saying they wanted stuff and then not turning up to collect it. Actually happened a few times and in the end we took the stuff to the charity shop.

 

Haven't tried again since but will need to use again soon as need to get rid of next lot of used Hemcore and compost bins are full. Not looking forward to it

See if there are any gardeners near you with allotments - when my bins are full, I give it to a friend with a lottie - she gives me veggies in exchange

I swap chicken poo for rhubarb.

 

 

The next lot is earmarked for the veg beds we are setting up at my sons' school. We managed to beg a load of free topsoil from a building site (if they insist on digging up school playing fields for housing then they can at least do something useful with it ) and the hemcore and poo is being mixed in.

 

 

Mention the words 'chicken poo' near an allotment holder and you will be their new best friend!

yours is safely waiting for you, had cocoa jumping on it, but I am sure it'll survive she probably thought it was a larger dustbath as her's is a smaller square one..
