I've got a scooter!

Recommended Posts

I can't sit on my trike anymore :(

The saddle is too hard which aggravates my hypermobility syndrome (HMS) . Also, i won't be able to use it during school holidays when DD is walking. And, i can't pedal anymore as it aggravates my HMS  And i can't walk very far on my crutches anymore as fatigue is a real issue with HMS.

So, i've got a mobility scooter  It's blue, pretty standard, but i got it from ebay so it was only £285. It is an ex-demo scooter, just like my trike is!

I also joined up to Leicester shopmobility this morning and terrorised all the shoppers. Actually, it was fab and made such a difference. When i'm in my wheelchair i tend to get a bit fed up with people getting in the way. It didn't seem to be such a problem on the scooter, maybe people were scared of me. It was so much more comfortable as well.

So next week, half term, should be a lot easier than i imagined it would be.

Just be careful if you come anywhere near Wigston, it may be safer in the middle of the road

do you have to tax and insure it?

it'll be much easier than a wheel chair i'm sure.

I think i might have to get one ultimately so keep us posted on how you find it, happy scootering

I'm only going on the pavement as it is a slow one so i don't need insurance or tax. You can get fast ones that only go on the road but i don't know about them. I really needed to be on the pavement with DD.

Let me know if anyone wants an electirc trike. I'm hoping to get a good price on ebay, when i get around to putting it on.

I posted a photo of that poor chap a few weeks ago, and trust me that particular stretch of road requires a stuntman kind of nerve even in a fast car.

Anyway, Helen if people get in your way, mow them down, you know you want to :lol::lol::twisted::lol::lol: aim for the ones wearing shellsuits and stripey baseball caps

I am sorry to hear you can't get on with your trike anymore but....good luck with your new wheels :D:D

My Dad had a red one.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that it transformed his life.

He could go out for his paper and a bit of shopping again and a couple of his friend had them so they used to meet up.

We used to tease them and call them Heck's Angels.

I'm 99% certain that he didn't have to pay tax or insurance, but it is a few years ago.

Congratulations helen - I know you're going to love it. Mine really transformed my life and shopping is so great - you get a real sense of independance and freedom :D Sorry about the trike. I'm finding that mine is good for some things, but I'm still using my 2 wheeled electric bike a lot.

Good luck with your new wheels

Congratulations Helly Welly - getting about will be much easier for you now! 8)

My parents and 3 of their older friends came to stay with us last week and i told them about the scooters they have for hire in the local shopping centre but it turns out you have to pay a yearly fee so they just hired 2 wheelchairs instead.

I must say my dad was quite disappointed as even though he & my mum are still very able bodied he was looking forward to all 5 of them doing an 'Italian Job' style assault on the local town!:lol::lol:
