Battery Farming Methods - WARNING! distressing images!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to post this video I found on youtube to highlight some of the awful techniques used in battery farming to people that are not aware of the true cruetly that many chickens go through.

Please do not support battery farming of any kind (eggs or supermarket meat). Support your local farmers if you can and ensure your family are eating healthy meat and eggs from animals that have been well looked after.

Please help to spread the word (I know many of you are already doing a fantastic job for animal welfare). Keeping your own chickens is the first step to respecting and appreciating these wonderful creatures...

* WARNING the link below contains video footage that some people may find distressing! Please do not view if you are easily offended. *

This is horrific!

I know this goes on as the main reason I'm a vegatarian.. however I think it is everyones own choice to eat meat or not, that said I do think as much care as possible should be taken to ensure the animal had a decent life..

I believe it is every meat and egg products eaters responsibility to try and push big companies like this to improve conditions..

Lets hope one day things change :?

I haven't watched it, too much of a scaredy-cat, but please also bear in mind that a lot of battery eggs end up in all sorts of other processed food products, such as cakes, quiches, mayonnaise, coleslaw, lemon curd, anything with breadcrumbs, etc. Checking out how your chicken and eggs are farmed is just the tip of the iceberg really.

Yes it's horrific but it's all down to our greed. The cheaper the better. Sad state of affairs.

What gets me is that the supermarkets/fast food places are literally catering to the public's greed- it's a Catch 22 situation, the supermarket/ff supply cheap meat therefore Joe Public want cheaper and it doesn't matter who or what suffers as long as Joe gets his cheap meat.

Is there nothing about what goes on here in our own country?? KFC meat isn't imported so how does it happen here? The same? Has anyone been allowed to truthfully film the process??

There are a lot more graphic videos on youtube, but I had to think of our younger audience.

I don't want to give people nightmares!

The problem I guess is it's a catch 22 situation. If eveyone was a vegitarian it would be too uneconomical for farmers to keep animals and species would become extinct.

But too much demand and company profit margins forces situations like this.

It makes me so sad to watch animals being treated in this way, especially at the slaughter houses! It truely sickens me, how would people feel if it were their own children/families being farmed for meat in conditions like this?

I was a meat eater until tonight, but some of the videos I have found have really opened my eyes to what goes on behind closed doors. I really don't think I could ever eat meat again.

I couldn't watch it all, I'm too squeamish. Thankfully I can't remember the last time I had KFC. I won't ever again.

I was a vegetarian for a couple of years but the family still ate meat but I got fed up of cooking a couple of different things each night.

I don't get how people can be so cruel to animals.

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a good Bank Holiday. :D

I thought I would replay to this topic even though I'm a newcomer, because its one of the reasons I decided to get chickens.

After watching the 'Chickens Out' campaign, I was shocked at the standards and cruelty involved in battery farms.

As a family we still eat meat and chicken, but I try to control where we get our chickens and eggs from which is hard on a budget. The way I do it is to have chicken less, but when we do I buy organic or free range.

I also try to grow some of my own veg, as the price of food (I feel) is going up in price.

Thing is, it is only when we stop buying it that things will change. No producer will make a product they cant sell- In the past year I've made a big effort to think about the 'hidden egg' and the 'hidden chicken', I've made a point of asking in restaurants (even if I dont want the chicken dish  ) and asked for substitutions.

I think vids like this need to be watched more, it astounds me that people still live in the Meatrix, and assume that mass-produced meat comes from happy healthy animals, gambolling through meadows full of wildflowers. Furthermore it serves the producers to allow the public to carry on with this assumption, because if most people were confronted about the truth about where their meat comes from, producers like Bernard Matthews would fold overnight.

Agree with everything on here, haven't watched the video as I've seen one before from KFC America where the employees were playing football with a live chicken. We can only hope that what goes around comes around, I'm a great believer in as you sow, so shall you reap. Anyway, what I was also going to say was it's worth any of you that are interested having a look at

www.ciwf.org.uk who campaign for compassion in world farming (as the title suggests really  ) They opened my eyes to a lot of things I hadn't previously considered, like what happens with our milk cows, what happens to the males at birth, what the truth is behind a lot of pig farming, not very nice and I agree you have to think of younger Omleteers, but tbh they are exactly the people who need to be gently made aware of this. Our generation has started to open it's eyes, the next generation are (imo) already MUCH more aware of our planet, the landscape and climate and the creatures that live on it. We can start the change buy voting with our cash when we shop, our children are going to continue it and make some REAL changes. Things that we have to think about they already take for granted - climate change, recycling, organic and sustainable farming methods.

We changed to organic and free range earlier this year but because it's STILL so expensive I nearly always have to make compromises, particularly towards the end of the month, and I HATE having to do that but I also have to be practical.

Thanks for raising this again, there's a LOT of new members on here who may not have seen this video.

Keep campaigning everyone! The windows on my car (big red bus) are still adorned with Chicken Out posters, CIWF stickers and general preaching!

I did start watching the clip but have seen similar and know they are awful.

I try very hard to buy organic/free range things but it is very difficult especially as said above when money dictates. Especially when you have 3 teens and a slow to convert hubby who i'm sure just thinks i'm mad lol

The kids just want food and though they eat well here will pick rubish to eat when out , well certainly 2 do

I also need an organic veg market locally i haven't sourced one yet and did have an organic box delivered for a while but found i'd rather choose my veg than get stuck with celeriac/fennel or artichokes which no-one likes lol

It was horrible, but not worse than I expected.

Presumably, however, KFC in the UK get their chicken locally, so we need to find out how their suppliers behave here before urging people to boycott them.

I doubt whether it is much better here.
