*mummy_hen*
if you can buy egg boxes for no more than 2 eggs? I know it's a weird thing to want but just wondered if it was possible to get them. Or alternatively, has anyone made their own egg boxes using mulched up paper and a mould before?
bronze
The smallest are 4 egg boxes though I have plastic egg holders for taking camping that hold two. I did think about making my own but couldnt find a way to mould a latch for the top. hmm might give it ago and just use an elastic band. TAJ
Hello mummyhen I hope all is well - we have only just got http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/ to make 4 egg ones (in blue) in the last few weeks - I haven't ever seen 2-egg ones. How many eggs are you getting? Tracy
*mummy_hen*
Hi Tracy, Thanks for the reply - i know it's a bit of a weird request but it was for what seemed like a brilliant idea, but now doesn't seem so great (we get married later this year and were trying to incorporate our babies ) Egg laying is pretty good, on average we are getting 3 or 4 a day, although this morning only 2. Not worried though as have enough to keep us going and ultimately we didn't get them for egg production. You will be pleased to know i am now perfectly happy handling my chickens and they are all settling in really well - haven't had to deal with the wing clipping issue yet though, so see how confident i'm feeling then
cluckbok
Hi ya, Were you thinking of favours for the wedding? When we got married we had sugar almonds wrapped in tulle and ribbon on the table. How about an egg wrapped in cellophane with a ribbon around!! Though you'd have to save lots of eggs though! Or an egg centrepiece!! I love weddings!! jomaxsmith
I'd have thought Cadbury's Creme Eggs might be easier for the guests - no worries about refrigerating them and no wondering how to get them home in one piece! Jo
*mummy_hen*
Hi cluckbok.....H2B said it jokingly whilst we were making tea last night and i got all excited, but logically with 5 ex-batts and about 70 day guests.....don't think my poor girls could lay enought with them all still being edible Am determined to get the chickens involved though....any ideas??? (OH thinks i'm mental) Also - am i mistaken in thinking creme eggs use battery eggs to make the creme centres?
Ms Tilytinkle
You could design & make (or have made) 'chicken' place name holders . . which could be nice & colourful & a nice mixture of roosters & chicks, with an egg at either side ( illustrated I mean, watre colours or acryllics Nice to take home too. jomaxsmith
am i mistaken in thinking creme eggs use battery eggs to make the creme centres? Dunno, but I hadn't thought of that - sorry! What about those plastic eggs you can fill with whatever you like? Mind you, they're probably only available at Easter so it depends whether your wedding is before or after next Easter! dogs and chickens
How about blowing the eggs and having them decorated? Would take ages, but would be great fun and very different and would be sure to get all your girls involved
TAJ
How about making hen shaped peppermint creams as favours in a colour to match your wedding - that will use egg whites at least and add a touch of hen. My sister had her dog & horse turn up to her wedding as a surprise (waiting outside church when they came out) - but I think that wouldn't work with chickens! Abbey Road Girl
This thread has got sidetracked into wedding favours, so I'll sidetrack it just a bit further! You can fill blown eggs with confetti (so I'm told) to throw at bride and groom (if wild birds consume raw rice it can be fatal). If you really want to go all out, you could substitute lavender buds or somesuch for confetti.

*mummy_hen*
Thanks for the ideas Definately will give me something to think about. God help me if OH sees this thread! Definately no more creme eggs for me, before i owned ex-batts i thought i was very concious of buying free range meat, etc. but it's all the things you don't think about such as battery eggs being used in most mass produced products - definately got a few things coming off the shopping list now as want to be sure i am not contributing to the industry in any way. Really agree with you here, it's really hard to realise half the things that contain battery eggs - poor chooks! Some of the pictures you guys who have ex batts have put on here have made me cry, I really hope to rescue some ex batts at some stage in the future. I just want to see them have a good life after their awful treatment but not only that, I would like to be able to take some before and after pics and invite people round so they can see what they are buying into! My sister still buys battery eggs and intensively farmed chicken She and some other friends of mine make me so cross - oh dear getting on my band wagon again - you guys know all that you don't need a lecture ! I'll save it some other less knowing people! Hope you have a fab wedding what ever you decide to do, and do let us know if you decided to include the chooks and how? x
