WE HAVE CHICKS!!!!!! EVEN more Pictures added...

Recommended Posts

Four of them!! Went to chuck Speckle off so she would have something to eat and saw a little yellow and black head poking out. Then I realised I could hear cheeping but this one wasn't moving it's beak. So we very gently lifted her and there were three all dried out and one still wet and flopping about! One is a copper black maran, I think we've got a light sussex, and an araucauna but not really sure about the others (should have writtten on the shells!)

SOOOOOOO EXCITED!! Really really hope they all survive and we get some more overnight - we thought they were due tomorrow or Monday. CLever CLEVER Speckle, not bad for a first timer!

Will try and get pictures but don't want to disturb her too much and the little blighters won't stay still!!

We went to a small holders do dowm in Cornwall two weeks ago - someone had a broody silkie - cute anyway - but she had hatched out 5 baby duck eggs for them - soo cute - the next time we looked they were all snuggled in, hardly noticeable.

Enjoy those lovely cute chicks & don't forget the photos.

Update, FIVE!!!! Our Brahma chick has just hatched! OMG I'm BESIDE myself!

Boys aren't a problem as a friend of ours who has 5 eggs under Speckle (none of which have hatched yet  ) has offered homes for any boys, the guy I bought our 7 eggs from wants some back if they're cockerels (the marans and the BRahma I think he said) and altho they're not fab eating breeds we'll eat any other boys (sorry  ). But I'm really fingers crossed for the Brahma the buff orpington and the copper black maran being girls, and the araucauna f that's the one that's hatched - I now think it's the cream legbar looking at the shell.

How soft is OH - he suggested gently lifting out broody cage in through the patio doors so it's inside and the chicks won't get cold. (bit chilly here and a VERY makeshift broody cage) so that's what we're going to do

Yep - that's soft alright!! They are perfectly fine under mum, plenty of heat there if you bear in mind that eggs need a temp of around 70f to hatch.

Your girlie has done really well, bless her.

yes i've returned, i've got my a level exams at the moment and have been avoiding all distractions for the last couple of weeks for revisions sake. and reading all the lovely chicken sotries on here can entrhall me for hours. doesn't help my human biology however.

also, i've had one of my sweetest chickens die recently and as silly as it sounds i was avoiding the forum so i didn't have to move her to the rip section of my signature. i know its silly but i did love her dearly.

also i have new ducklings now, and hopefully chicks. ^_^

i must say, im flattered you'd noticed id gone.:lol:

Only an hour or two, as soon as they were dried out they were lovely! A watched pot never boils and I have wasted SO much time watching through the mesh to see if anything else is showing any signs of making an appearance. Five of the eggs are only "up" tomorrow so I shall give them til Wednesday to hatch, our last two have realistically got until tomorrow I think, five out of seven hatched yesterday, the other two are just sitting there, still, I got the brahma, the cream legbar is a girl (HOORAY!) and we've got a light sussex, a buff orpington and a Copper maran, not sure if its a black one or a wheaten.

Pictures of your please!
