Naughty Omlet

Recommended Posts

Look I can see I am losing a pro Omlet thing here - that was not my intention. I just wanted new buyers to see there is a lot more involved than the purchase of an eglu and cube and some blummin' hens ok!!!!!!!!!

:(:(

Time for a cup of tea methinks.

You are right to say that other purchases may be required, but your initial post did come across as suggesting that Omlet were misleading folk.

I have a (cube green)GNR GNR GNR GNR GNR GNR and (orange eglu)(white duck)(duck)(white duck)(duck)

to start off with I converted an old tool shed at the bottom of the garden and had GNR GNR GNR GNR GNR . I also built a run ( well my dad did!!) I didnt even know that "Omlet" exsisted!!! a friend of mine introduced me to "Omelt" and we both got a cube! I am even planning to get a set of plastic roosting bars as my wooden ones are deteriating!

do you know its easier to clean out, its off the floor and it takes less space then the old tool shed I used to put them in!!!

If people buy any of the starter packs then they should know that there will be other expences like anyother pet you get! if they dont then they shouldnt be getting a pet at all, and a starter pack is exsactly what it states "a starter pack!"

Without Omlet and the eglu design we would not have chickens it is the most brilliant coop for a chicken I have ever see. I come from a family that has always owned chickens including an Uncle whom owned an egg business grandparents and another Aunt & Uncle who kept a small flock for the families eggs. Nothing has been this easy to keep clean and to keep the hens safe. I find the Omlet staff to be most helpful and the extras are just that extras you choose to buy or not but not needed. Thank you Omlet and all on this forum for your help. I knew just what to expect and where to get answers to my questions.

Hiya all

When I first ready about Omlet i was not aware of all the extra items needed. but as soon as i read the forum I was totally addicted & found it was very easy to pick up! It helped me alot about all the goods i needed. Only had my ladies for 4 weeks & fell like an expert with the extras lol x

I've heard rumours that some people buy eglus just as an excuse to join the forum.:wink:

There's an awful lot of empty eglus around the country, while their owners sit at their computers tap-tap-tapping..... :?:?:?

In fact, you would probably find that most people on this forum haven't even got chickens.

I am not dissing Omlet, I'm just saying that hens are not as easy as a bag of pellets an Eglu and a run!

They should change their advertising to that effect!

Maybe the keepers who think a bag of pellets and a run really is all that their hens need should a) look at their previous posts that totally contradict this, and b) if this really is all their hens are getting - look at the happiness and life expectency of similar hens?

I thought the whole point of this Omlet idea was to keep hens as pets and not as things kept on pellets for eggs but maybe I was wrong judging by some of the comments?

Ho Hum...

Sounds like my friend Prudence needs to visit a few people then

For ages after I bought my eglu and girls, I only ever used the basics; bedding, feed and that was about it. Gradually though, I built up a small tin of handy chicken medical supplies, much like I have for the other animals.

None of these are necessary mind, just that I prefer to use them. I always explain the alternatives at my beginners and advanced hen parties, taking care to emphasise that they aren't strictly necessary.

I like to think that most people would do their research and find out what is necessary and what suits their lifestyle/regime before entering into it. I don't feel that the website is at all misleading, any more than any other site is - they explaina nd supply the basics and it's up to the purchaser to decide whether they want to invest in anything else.

Welllllllllllllllll...................

I've no chicks as yet, but they are on order and coming July... I came across omlet by mistake!!!! However, I think it's a very informative site, and the forum has been a god send..... I've spent much time doing my research and am aware of any 'extras' that may be required. Am also booked into a 'henparty' on sunday!!!!

I think omlet encourages you to do the research even if it's via this forum as it's a fun and friendly way to do it.

Chicks are pets and I am sure that most people are responsible pet owners and understand the pros and cons of what may occur....

wish me luck!

What should it say??? How many petshops have information on pets including things you "may" need to buy? They don't! You buy the pets and decide for yourself what they need!

Some people DO keep hens purely for eggs and don't give them treats and pamper them. To others, they are family pets - much loved and spoiled rotten. That's entirely up to the owner - not Omlet, surely.

Well there no need to say that omlet are mis leading people they may has mis leaded you but please dont speek for all of us...We know that any animal cost more  Only speek for your self.

If anyone looks on the site, buys this 'pack' and does not purchase anything else they will have some very sad and poorly hens.

Time to make the website a bit more accurate Omlet in reading of the current press! I have 2 friends currently thinking of purchase who didnt have a clue re the other requirements other than than the £395 pack!!!

Like l said please speek for your self, l was not being rude thankyou :D

Kate well said my hens are much loved pets and are not just kept on pellets for eggs.

I dont think thats fair Sarah, your post was negative towards omlet and some people on this forum disagree with what you have said. Some of the things you have quoted that we need to buy isn't really a necessity and everyone looks after their pets differently. My girls have a wonderful life free ranging and get many treats as well as their pellets so I don't think you should assume they are not happy hens.

I think that the winter shade should be supplied with the Eglu, but you can manage without everything else.

I don't buy any of the extras for hens recommended on this forum, and my hens are fine.

All my extravagances have been things I fancied, not things I needed (notice the word "I" -- it's not for the hens).
