Laura & CTB
I don't mind sweeping it up every day, really I don't I have the same problem with a gravel patch, every day the girls scatter it everywhere and everyday I have to sweep it back. I just think how much they are enjoying themselves so now I hide mealworms in there for them to find too.
Mutrix Farmers
We shred all our shrubby prunings and that's all over the lawn now where the girls keep flicking it. Why do they insist of standing the wrong way round
Ms Tilytinkle
Ha, Seagazer . . are you sure thats not my garden? actually on closer inspection, no thats far too tidy for ours !!!! Tee hee i know exactly what you mean, everyday .the mess they create, sorry i mean they're such good girlies helping tidy up beneath the hedges, bringing out all the twigs, leaves & you name it they kick it out so we can sweep it up. Although it does also mean i can see which hedge they're foraging under Bless them Ms Tillychickensarenowsittinghavingtheireafteroonsiestaonthegrasswingssplayedandeyesclosedpurringhappily
Seagazer
After they'd done it one day Dave, the cat, came along and scooped a bit back on to the beds. My mum thinks I should train him. I wish! I love watching them do it, its so funny. Butch the pepperpot is the biggest and she really scatters it far. Ginger the smallest follows her and just waits for Butch to do the work and then she quickly gets in to have a feed. Cheeky girl
Snowy
They amaze me! My flower beds are all now fenced off so they only have access to the lawn, gravel patches in the patio and a small section of shrubbery. Yet their crops are always bulging after an afternoon freeranging! What are they finding to eat??? (it's not all grass as we had to mow it last week - first time in 10 months! )
The Dogmother
My beds are fenced off too - otherwise I have to crawl amongst the plant on an egg hunt! The chooks have a designated rootling and dustbathing area and the rest of the garden to 'bother'. Actually, bantams don't make too much mess. TAJ
I put log roll edging on the flower beds and it seems to have done the trick on stoping them getting all the soil out onto the grass - but it is still lovely to watch them digging around so much.
