Cube is here! (new pic -- extension finally arrived!)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Well Steve arrived at about 11am and started to assemble my lovely lilac cube. Unfortunately, a panel for the run is missing, so he had to leave the job unfinished and Omlet will post me the panel. Hopefully, it arrives on Friday, so I can have everything set up for going to get the chickens on Saturday.

For now, just a couple or three photos:

Almost ready for my girls...

Chickens? We're getting chickens?

But I don't even like eggs!

Thanks everyone. Yes, the lilac is incredibly lovely -- the photos don't do it justice. When it's up and running and the girls are in situ, I will take photos on a sunny day (lots of clouds now, threatening rain) to show off its true glory.

If the run roof bit doesn't arrive by Friday, I will just have to set up the run as a 2m w/out extension until it does come. I don't want to have to fiddle with it myself (which is why I was so miffed a piece was missing -- I hate setting things like this up! erg!) -- but I will have to to build the 1m extension and install a flap door for me to get inside.

All those photos next week, when everything looks as it should.

What a gorgeous little chap - needs a hug I suspect!

Oh, thank you, Egluntine and Claret -- he is adorable to his mum, but it's nice to know he can charm others. He is more disappointed that no chickens are here yet. "They'll be here Saturday," is not what he wants to hear or can really understand. I'll have a few days of trying to keep him from treating it like a Wendy house.

I just called Omlet about the missing run roof. Thank goodness I did! They got the whole message from Steve the driver all confused. They thought all I was missing were some run clips -- so they sent out a pack of freebie run clips, but no run roof... ... Then they tell me, I missed the courier and I won't get the part until next Wednesday... ... Then I get put on hold and someone gets back to me telling me they will put it in express courier tomorrow and I will indeed have it by Friday :D (I hope).

I do know they are very busy there nowadays, with their annual orders being multiplied by three in just one year... but this is about the fifth messy order (missing bits, wrong items) that I have had in the past two weeks, so forgive me if I am sceptical that my run will actually be assembled this Friday... I'm jaded, I know... but fingers crossed.

Oh, what is sadder than an empty cube in the rain?!

Well, the missing panel Omlet sent to me by courier to finish off my run extension got so severely damaged in transit (by the couriers) that I now won't get a new one until Monday or Tuesday. So I have had to close up the standard 2m run area and will plop my girls in there until next week. They will be fine and dandy, I know -- it's me I'm sad for, as I will have to undo and redo and wiggle and finagle the extension into place with 3 or 4 chooks trying to escape! The garden won't be free-rangable for another week, as the gate to the street is down and won't be fixed until a few days later.

Until then... this is my sad little view from my office window... empty wet cube awaiting it's chooks:

But the good news is -- I can actually climb into the run through the little chicken door! That diet I've been on has really worked!

Okay, the extension roof panel finally arrived today (after being promised for last Wed, then last Friday, then yesterday, then first thing this morning, then being left at my neighbours house and finally... I got it). Took me yonks to put it together, but I finally worked it out and cobbled together the step-in run door as well.

Here's the final set up (but will be getting better clips to secure top of step-in door flap, instead of velcro fastners that are there now):

Looks very nice in lilac! A very serene colour i must say. :D

Thanks. And I know everyone says this about their choice, but... I cannot imagine any other colour being better in our garden. It seems to me the most subtle and blend-able of all the colours. I just love it!

Wanna swap??

Haha! Nnnnnneverrrrrr!

I like it so much, I am eyeing another lilac eglu that's appeared on eBay (though the OH is eyeing our wallet and our lawn!).

Why is it that eBay has lilac eglus for auction, but Omlet doesn't yet have them for sale :?:
