Sorry Mods, i know this is an egg topic, but am a little worried so want maximum people to see it.

 

Just found this in the nest box I weighed it and it weighs 100g!!!!

 

No idea who laid it, will it hurt them in any way to lay an egg this size? It is like double the normal size of their eggs! Do i need to monitor them at all, or is it normal for them once in a while to lay a HOUSE!?

Yep, ours lay enormous eggs occasionally, too. Nothing to worry about, and it doesn't do them any damage.

Look at the egg leader board in the eggs section...you will see that it goes up to 145g at the moment! We have had several of that kind of size...they are double-yolkers..yummy. Once the girls get into their stride they stop laying these outsize ones so enjoy any you get...

Oooh how exciting! Clever girlie whoever laid that one then! How do i find the egg leader board, is it on the eggs page (sorry if that sounds very silly, but don't tend to stray much further than chickens!!)

 

They like beautiful eggs, considering we have only had them 7 weeks, everyone who has had some say they are beautiful

My Maggie laid one like that yesterday although not as big, only a mere 78gms but it certainly made me stand back and say wow. I pictured her getting up off the nesting box afterwards, walking very bandylegged with tears in her eyes thinking, gosh that smarted She laid a normal size today though.

Dippy lays large eggs from time to time, because they are white they look like goose eggs. Still not quite made the 100g mark yet 98g is the nearest so far.

Well done - nutmeg laid a 101g just before my last course, so I saved it to show them - she was fine and went back to 'normal' eggs without even a day off.
