Popcorn
Isn't it lovely when you change your bed covers for clean, fresh sheets and duvet covers - (especially when you can line dry them in the fresh air!) When you get into bed it's all sweet smelling and such a pleasure to relax and fall asleep in. I'm sure my chooks feel the same when I change their bedding. They always go in for an inspection after I've changed the straw and newspaper and de-pooed it, and I'm sure they cluck in appreciation. Has anyone else noticed this too? Guest
I agree Gina. I change our sheets every week and it is lovely to dry them on the line. Although I haven't done that for a while as it has been so wet I'm sure summer is just around the corner PS Wait until you have a line full of tiny little baby clothes, they look so sweet
Cinnamon
There is nothing quite like fresh clean crisp sheets which have been billowing on a line in the sun all day *sigh* I remember it so well................................
Cate in NZ
Oh, I love clean, crisp sheets A favourite fantasy, should I ever win the lottery (tough one that though- I don't actually do it ) would be to have a housekeeper or something to come in and change my bedlinen daily. Not very environmentally friendly though, all that washing, but then fantasies don't have to ecologically sound... do they I do iron my sheets though, hubby thinks I'm mad, but I much prefer them line dried, ironed with lavender water and they have to be cotton. Bliss OK, I admit to being just a little bit fussy about my laundry Sorry
Mrs Frugal
Same here, Kate. I always iron my sheets and spray them with lavender water. They smell fab when I put them on the bed. Just changed ours as we were out yesterday and I love having crisp clean white sheets every week. My biggest luxury!
Popcorn
Oh, I'm a huge ironer. The only thing I don't iron is our underwear. Have to iron our bedding sheets though....not so much the hens bedding...that just gets a quick plump up or a smooth over for the newspaper! I used to work with a lady, who, believe it or not, used to iron her bed everyday once she had got up and made it, so her sheets were crease free for when she got back in. I do think that is a bit extreme!
Mrs Frugal
That is a bit extreme but could be nice and warm in winter. OK, I admit I'm an ironing freak too. I not only iron tea towels and sheets but I also iron the boxer shorts for all 3 males in my household . I don't iron my superpants though. The day just isn't long enough for a job that big . Popcorn
I am terrible for teatowels. They don't stay dry enough for long enough for me to iron them. I only use a teatowel once to dry the pots, then dry down the sink with it, and it gets thrown back in the washing machine to wash with my main wash. I do have quite an extensive collection too
Mrs Frugal
Same here Gina. LSH when he dries up chucks them in the wash as soon as they get damp so I need a good collection. They're rather tatty and a bit holey too, I'm afraid as I'm a boilaholic! If it's white, I boil it !!
Linda
I thought it was just me! I have dozens of teatowels because I use so many. I usually have one on the go to wipe my hands on while cooking, and use however many more it takes for the drying up, wiping down and grabbing hot things. I get a fresh one out as soon as one gets creased or damp. I think they are very useful to have near you at all times in the kitchen! Linda
I have one constantly draped over my shoulder Linda! Me too!! I certainly don't match you ironing prowess though! (It'll soon be the muslin squares over you shoulder Get plenty - they're invaluable! )
Cinnamon
Oh goodness - I have a confession to make. I don't own an iron If it needs ironing,I don't buy it. The girls uniforms are non-iron,The Hubby wears sweats for work & I am a BIG cheesecloth fan I agree about the muslin squares...GET LOTS & LOTS. We still have our girls old "Muzzies" knocking about - they are so useful
Nicola H
You are not alone Sarah I don't iron either all OH work shirts are easy iron same with the childrens uniforms and I steer clear of anything that may go wrinkly in the wash......................... Mrs Frugal
Not fair!! All the boys things are non-iron but I still have to do them as my washing machine manages to tie them in knots .
Nicola H
I have a program on my washing machine called "easy iron" it works a treat..................
Mrs Frugal
Half the time my washing machine won't work which doesn't help ! Don't think it can cope with the mountain of washing that heads our way from some mid-European country - well it can't all be ours, surely ! AnnieP
I don't iron. OH irons his own shirts. When he goes abroad to work, I send him off with a suitcase of DIRTY clothes. He puts them straight into the hotel laundry and BINGO: all his clothes are ready for him to wear without that "just travelled around the world in a suitcase" look. I think its a genious stroke! Haven't ever quite plucked up the courage to send over some of my clothes too....
Louise
I have to be very strict with myself over ironing as I hate it so much I make sure I do it every week and I only iron clothes not sheets towels etc If I leave it any longer I hate myself for it Doing it every week means it never takes longer than 45 minutes I have in the past when I had 2 persons to do leave it till there was nothing left to wear and have to stand for three hours and by the end of it I would be in tears
The Dogmother
I love ironing, just don't have enough time to do it! I iron sheets, duvet covers, tea towels and everything! Kate - I boil too!
AnnieP
My mother in Law irons dish cloths and dusters......
Popcorn
I'd start having panic attacks and foaming at the mouth if I didn't own an iron...how do you manage Sarah!! Annie, can I send some of my bits in a suitcase you too please
AnnieP
Gina, of course you can, but don't send me the wrong one....what if you turned up at the hospital , opened your case only to find dirty washing! What would the nurses think? (and I CERTAINLY don't want those breast pads thank you very much!!!)
Cate in NZ
Sarah..... no iron Actually I'm impressed, I hate ironing, find it mind-numbingly boring, but can just about tolerate it if there's something light and easy to watch on TV, a good old film or something. But I love the feeling of freshly ironed crisp clothes, and am meticulous about my ironing.... I think that's why it takes me so long , and I've got a super dooper steam generator iron that really gets those creases out. I don't go as far as Kate with the boxer shorts though, although I do iron tea towels which is crackers because on a good day I use 1 tea towel, on a weekend when I prepare several meals and clear up after them it can easily be 2 or 3 or more
Cinnamon
I'd start having panic attacks and foaming at the mouth if I didn't own an iron...how do you manage Sarah!! I have just remembered that I do have a tiny little travel iron which I bought especially to iron on some transfers onto a T shirt for Cleo a few years ago. I did hoik it out a couple of months ago too, when I got a sticky-uppy collar on a school shirt None of my stuff needs ironing - I wear lots of crinkle cotton & those crumple look tops which you screw up into a tube to get the creases back. I do tumble dry a bit ,mostly in winter, which cuts out the need for a lot of ironing too
