Daft breadmaker questions

Recommended Posts

Hope you can help, My sister gave me her breadmaker so am trying out a packet bread mix in it (cheating I know but I've no recipe book :? ) but do I leave it in the tin to cool down for a bit before I try to take it out.

Also, can I just use any breadmaker recipes :? It's a Russell Hobbs one if that helps. Thanks

i tried a packet mix once and it was rubbish!

when it's ready, take the tin out and leave it to cool for a few minutes then turn out the loaf and leave it to cool.

I use the recipe on the back of the hovis granary flour packet but I make it with 1/2 granary flour and 1/2 strong white bread flour and it's lovely.

you're supposed to use the recipe book that comes with the machine but I don't as all the recipes have dried milk powder in them and sound a bit weird :?

i use the recipe book for jam and cakes though.

You can take it out as soon as it's cooked - I think you get a better crust that way. If you leave it too long if isn't as crusty (although mine always does very crunchy crusts either way! ) :?

I do use any recipe now - as long as the predicted loaf size doesn't exceed the capacity of the machine. The most impotant thing is to put things in in the right order, ie liquids first, then dry ingredients. :D

Thanks Poet and Snowy :)

Well, it's not cooked on the top properly but the rest of it is ok -lol I think that may have something to do with everyone opening the lid lots to see what it looked like  even though it's got a viewer.

I turn the loaves over on their sides and cut them, that way you get square slices for sandwiches and the top bit which is sliced off first is either cooks perks with butter and jam or if I slice it off thickly my son likes it toasted with his poached egg in a morning. the top is cooked ok it is just softer because it is furthest from the heating element.
