Morning everyone,

 

We have now made the decision, with the help of our neighbours to let our bantams go. Our neighbours have objected to the girls ever since we got them and today was the final straw for them when one of the girls was squawking laying an egg!

 

We have cats to which they also object, but we're not finding new homes for them, just the girls.

 

Our girls are two pekin bantams, one yellow, one red and the other girl is a lavender araucana.

 

Although I live in Canterbury I am prepared to deliver the girls within a reasonable distance (up to 100 miles) to give them a good home.

 

Could you help as I really need to get them rehomed as soon as possible.

Hi Lynn - wish I could help but I still have a bullying problem . My skyline was broody recently and the two ginger girls really went for her. I simply dare trying to introduce little ones the way these two behave. Sorry I can't help, and sad to hear you have decided to move on from chooks

Yes, I did have the girls and the Eglu on ebay for about an hour and then thought that I'd rather rehome the girls by giving them to someone, if possible, who belongs to the Forum; at least then I would have some comfort in knowing that they are going to a loving home.

 

We have decided to keep the Eglu and bits and bobs because we want to keep chickens again, either when we move, or the neighbours move out and we get more reasonable people who actually like animals and enjoy country living!

Am so-o-o-o tempted but your posts about the noise they make is a bit worrisome. I live in Victorian terrace, with lots of hedges and trees separating people's gardens, and my neighbours say they never hear my hens who, however, only crow when they have laid an egg.

 

I hope someone helps you out but I might be able to, as a last resort. If they came here, you could visit them if you wished (I see that you work at Canary Wharf, and I am just south of the Greenwich Peninsula). I'd have to accelerate work on extending my run ...

Milton Keynes might be a tad far to travel... but if you find you have to come up the M1 for any reason and want to take the girls with you, I'd be very happy to give them a home. We have an igloo and a nice shed converted to hen house, with a large enclosure, anti-fox gadget thing (can't remember the proper name), and a loving home. Two cats who know their place and two chicken-hugging children who love to give the chooks plenty of treats.

Thank you very much for your support, I really appreciate it.

 

My lovely girls are going to a lovely new home on Sunday where I know they will be very happy and well looked after.

 

Nick and I are hoping that karma does indeed work on our neighbours and are looking forward to the results soon

 

We are keeping our Eglu and all the bits and bobs and hope to return to chicken keeping in the near future. Hopefully you won't mind that I keep in contact with the site to hear of all of your chicken exploits.

 

This is going to be a terrible week for Nick and I as each morning is a countdown to saying goodbye to them - I'm sitting at my desk at work with tears streaming down my face - luckily everyone who I work with is very understanding as they know how much I love the girls.

Just thought I'd give you an update on my three girls.

 

The girls set off on Saturday to their new home in Suffolk and are living with a lovely family who are Omleteers!

 

It has been awful at home; when I cleared the Eglu and run away on Sunday and yesterday Nick and I felt it so much when we came home from work and the first thing I did was to go out to the garden to open the run to let the girls out, and of course, they weren't there. We sat in the garden last night and said how empty it was without the fluffy bums foraging in the shrubs.

 

We know they are going to be very well looked after and petted, but it has left a huge void in our life which will take a long time to fill.

 

It's strange too how our cats also seem to miss them. One of our cats, Elsa, spent Sunday walking around the garden calling for them like a mummy cat does for her kittens.

 

Well, hopefully it won't be too long before disaster strikes our neighbours and we can be chicken keepers again.

How sad, so sorry you had to give up your girls.

Why not drop your neighbours a note saying you realise that chicken keeping was not for you and you have both decided to concentrate on your other passion and take up drumming? Will they be in next Tuesday to receive delivery of your first drum kit?

Hi All,

 

It's been over a year now since we were forced to rehome our three girls because of our horrid neighbours. Reading through this thread again today I noticed the word karma and I thought I would give you an update!

 

Unfortunately for our neighbours their business folded at the weekend . I don't know the ins and outs of it but it seems the business has closed owing money to a number of people. Whilst I feel sorry for the people to whom they owe money, I can't feel sorry for the neighbours. They have continued to be a complete nightmare to Nick and me and I can only hope that their house is up for sale soon. Since I heard the news I have been following Rightmove to see if their house is listed - alas, not at the moment.

 

I have been off work this week and I think Nick is fully expecting each evening he comes home to find chickens in the garden! I won't just yet but perhaps not too far away

 

I am trying to feel compasion and sympathy for them - it isn't great at this time with no income and less likelihood of finding a job, but I was just a teensy weensy bit over the moon
