Couperman
After the day I have had the last thing I needed was to come home to a poorly lady. Snowball seems to be suffering from the same the problem that did for Splodge. The symptoms are as follows if anyone can help. Very runny 'cream cheese' poo almost constant. Lethargic (sp) hunched. There was a small black/blue spot on her comb earlier today. This seems to have spread across the entire 'Lobe' but not the whole comb as yet. She will drink when forced to do so but is not interested in food even her faves. We have wormed the girls recently but I gave her an extra dose of Flubenvet and Spice and lots of water via pipette. I really hope she is OK tomorrow but I fear I have seen this before (same breed as Splodge) She is cosied up in the front room in a Cat basket at the mo and seems comfortable. Kev. Chickaboo
Poor thing - I don't know I'm afraid, but isn't a blue coomb a sign of heart disease? I would take her to the vet. Hope she gets better
Egluntyne
Poor girl. Was she vaccinated against all the usual diseases?
moochoo
Poor thing. How's she looking this morning?
Couperman
She's looking a bit perkier today but not much. She is drinking now and has had a bit of lettuce. She has been vaccinated against all the nasties. Kev.
theherd123
Im sorry to read about Snowball Poorly chookies are such a worry arent they? Has Snowball got a swollen tummy? I ask as this could be a sign of perotinitis and your description of the cream cheese pooh matches with how one of my girls was when she had this. Chickvic
There is something in Poultry Health http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29183 This seems to have very similar symptoms to what you describe.

Yes I saw that too. The plops are not yellow and foamy though, more white and watery. I think it could be a similar thing so I am hoping Flubenvet will help. I'm not sure if our vets treats hens but will ask. Kev.
theherd123
Even if they dont Kev they should know some basics and a course of Baytril is usually what they hand out. Baytril is a broad spectrum anti-biotic and from past experience with my girls it works quite well. I do hope she improves soon!
peepie
no real advice but I hope she feels better soon. Take care xx
Couperman
Well she is still with us but she was rather smelly to say the least We just gave her a bath and a Flubenvet syringy thing. She actually made a bit of a flap which is a major improvement from yesterday. The cacky vent seems to have improved and the bluey black tinge has gone from her headgear. She is still not a happy camper but at least she has regained the ability to object. She didn't seem too hungry but if some big git dragged me out of my bed without warning and then proceeded to force feed me hard drugs and insist on washing my bottom I would lose my appetite too. I won't be happy until she starts SQWARKING again, I never thought I would wish for that! Here's hoping I think I will still take her to the vet tomorrow. Kev. Guest
Positive vibes to Snowball Kev I hope she gets well soon We have been looking after a poorly chook for the past week and a half and know how worrying it is Our little Sharpay seemed to loose all use in her legs, although she has been very perky and eating and drinking well. She is just now gaining a little movement but it is very slight Good luck at the vets with her

Couperman
Hi all, Snowball does have a swollen tum, quite squishy and she is 'oozing' constantly. So I think you are right on the peritonitis score. I am taking her to the vet this afternoon. She is have a little sunbathe at the moment after her pre vet bath. She is very lethargic. Lets hope the vet can put her right. Kev.
Couperman
Poor Snowball just died She had a little seizure was sick and then drifted off. There was a little wriggler in the sick so it seems she had a few problems. Just cancelled the vet appointment. I should have took her yesterday, isn't hindsight wonderful, I feel awful now. At least she died with the sun on her back with her friends. Kev.
