Rhapsody
I bought a Tefal Actifry on a recommendation and its fantastic- you only use a max of a tsp oil and it cooks by circulating hot air. Sauteed spuds are amazing-crisp and fluffy, sausages come out moist inside and crispy outside (no oil added at all). Have also cooked boned chicken thighs (again no oil)and roasted veg. It stirs the food around too and nothing sticks oh and did I mention all the bits that get grotty go straight in the dishwasher...? Best gadget for ages and I got mine 20 quid off cos the box was missing- Good Times!!
Lesley
- I tried so hard not to look........... ...but my Dad gave me some money to spend on things we wouldn't normally buy (like animal feed - that's all we buy these days! ) ....and Carl keeps trying to set up his deep fat fryer and I won't let him............. Amazon have a good offer on this - be careful, they have two prices........

Milly
We got one a few months ago. They are rather pricy but it actually works very well. It doesn't make chips quite as crispy as I expected them to be, but they aren't bad and at least are relatively healthy. The thing that it does very well is sausages - browned on all sides and perfectly cooked, rather than black and pink as they sometimes used to be in the frying pan! And chicken wings. I get some really good free range, meaty wings from the farmers market and it cooks them perfectly. They were always a bit dry in the oven. And last night after cooking the chicken wings I put in some cooked potato skins for about 10 mins and they came out nice and crispy. Not something I would normally do but I cooked some "salad" potatoes in their skins and they all broke up and the skins came away in chunks so it was a good way of making the best of them. Rhapsody
The thing that it does very well is sausages - browned on all sides and perfectly cooked Agreed- they come out fantastically well. I'm also using it to brown off mince before using in a chili or a pasta dish, it browns the mince but doesnt let it dry, and stirs it for you. I *heart* my Actifry. LJ's Chooks
Oh i So want one of these... I couldnt figure out if it was great or not, but loved the idea so my friend has added one to her wedding list so she can try it first... but good ol' omlet forum have convinced me... Oh I need to try and resist... has anyone found it cheaper anywhere? 150 is a bit steep... its a lot of chips!!
spratly0
£97.03 on amazon! still quite expensive though. Are they really that good for anything other than chips? Try not to eat them too often, don't like oven chips and don't have a fryer. But i had never heard of this gadget before - might be tempted if it could be used for lots different stuff and it makes it easier!
Lesley
We bought ours from Amazon - but it was £101 last week We used it last night to cook...... Sausages - absolutely perfectly cooked Onions - added to the sausages for the last two minutes Courgette/aubergine/tomatoes - came out like roast veggies and were lovely Saute potatoes - leftover, cold new potaoes, sliced and a minimal amount of oil - perfect and crispy Tonight I am going to make chips............. The only problem I have had so far is that it has a barely audible timer! Is it supposed to be louder? - we cannot hear it unless we stand right over it and listen - and then it is just a faint sound We had to set the kitchen timer. Egluntyne
I did a lazy stir fry in mine last night. It was very nice.......and as with the browning of mince....I didn't have to stand over it.
Lesley
Are they really that good for anything other than chips? Ummmm yeeeesss....did you see my original post? .....and have you seen mine about the inaudible timer Rhapsody??
Egluntyne
I must admit the timer is a bit weedy. Trouble is, I don't feel quite old enough for one of those you wear round your neck. I set the cooker timer if I'm not standing over it. That would waken the dead.
Lesley
Thanks Egluntine - I just needed to know it if was a problem with ours and I needed to send it back........we use the kitchen timer (but it doesn't hang around my neck! ) After testing it with sausage and lots of veg the first night, we made just chips last night......... I went onto Skype to chat to my son in Romania while they cooked and they were perfect when i went back to them.........you can't do that with a deep fat fryer
