Louise
We have a student with us this week on work experience and she has the weirdest chook tale I have ever heard A few weeks ago she was doing work experience on a sheep farm and they routinely have the local battery chicken farm out to spread waste on the land for fertiliser Nothing odd in that you may think The lorry collects the waste from the bottom of the sheds by sucking it up to the container on the lorry which then goes to the appointed field where the waste is then sprayed on to the land - lovely A few hours later the farmer went out to do a routine walk round inspection and imagine his surprise when wandering around the field was a lone battery chicken She must have got into the waste area under the batteries been sucked out and then sprayed onto the field Amy (the student) has kept her as they already had a couple of chickens at home and now Betty has been intergrated and is doing fine apparently I would have called her lucky

clootie
Oh poor thing. I can't get that image out of my head now. She had obviously planned her escape well - that's one smart chicken. I'd be watching for the others that will be following her example! Actually, Pixar might be interested !

MedusA
Well done Betty! That is a brilliant story of one little chicken overcoming adversity to start a new life. They should make a film about it, like they did about the Tamworth Two! (Escaped pigs if you haven't heard that story).

MedusA
I would love to see a pic of Betty if you could post one, Louise. Not least because Betty is my Mum's name, and I could send her a copy of the story and a pic.
