Egluntyne
It was in the **Daily Mail** too. I'd be inclined to at least google it before trying a tip like that.
Guest
what a plonker! He was probably reading from a script prepared by a researcher who is probably 'signing on' as we speak!

hilda-and-evadne
Check this out http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7540648.stm When I heard that, I thought - duh, AWT, the clue is the "bane" bit of the word. AWT had a public school education, too, dipstick. Bane means something that causes misery or death, derived from Old English/Old Norse word for death. Scramble
People can be so stupid sometimes... Especially me... But I don't think I'd ever do that!
Guest
AWT had a public school education, too, dipstick. .... Doesn't mean one is going to necessarily be more intelligent just because one went to public school.
Lapinou
AWT had a public school education, too, dipstick. Why would that make one more likely to know about wild plants? Or anything, for that matter!
freddie
just as aside, what difference does yr education make as to whether you know the names of edible plants???? my mother taught me, not any school, and I know quite a lot of people on this forum are struggling away, finding the money somehow, to send their kids to a "private" school, to give them a decent start. you pay for class sizes, more than anything else, and there's very few parents who would turn away the oppportunity to give their children the best they can, if they can. Rant over!! My mum died, and left me enough to get mine through until after gcse level. I could have paid off the mortgage, bought a camper, and had a holiday, and sent them to the not so hot comp down the road. Guess what I did. And now tell me it's not right. I work all hrs to earn money to pay the mortgage, and will continue to do so.the only thing that changed is no mum any more, and I get taxed even more heavily on my being sensible and not blowing the lot! buffie
I just wanted to say that AWT meant to say a weed called fat hen, so I read. Wrong name popped into his mind Buffie x
clootie
I'd worry if his hobby was natural remedies and he wanted me to try his new tea It does make you think though - there are lots of people who would take his word as gospel and it wouldn't cross their minds to check. I wouldn't have known about henbane regardless of state school education v independent. It should, however, force people to double check but as folks are generally lazy, I doubt it. Anyway, is henbane widely available? If it's as dangerous as they say it is, it probably will be now so they've shot themselves in the foot there! Causes hallucinations, drowsiness and disorientation. Hmm, greenhouses around the country are preparing their shelves for a new arrival with it's friend the ciggie paper I'm with you Poet, a researcher hasn't slept a wink since this hit the fan. Poor thing.
