stoice
Does anyone have a link to the cheapest place to get Ukadex online? Or Essex from a shop? I'm in Colchester but work in Southend so anywhere inbetween? I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere with all the info i need but i can't find it. My mabel will thank you for it
Gallina
The cheapest online price of Ukadex I could find online was Merrydale Poultry, at £10.99. It's headed "Anti Peck Spray (500ml)" on this page: http://www.merrydalepoultry.co.uk/accessories.htm But it is heavy, making the shipping is a whopping £7.95. So you might be better at buying it in person somewhere, even if it is priced at more than £10.99.
stoice
Ouch - thanks Gallina. I think I may carry on with Johnsons anti peck spray while I try scouting around for a local supplier. A breeder once suggested emptying a dollop of vicks into a pan, boiling with water until mixed and dissolved. Once cooled then spraying onto the 'picked on' hen. The offender then gets an almightly whiff of vicks and is put off. May also try this. Much prefer a strong vicks smell to ukadex from what I've heard here. (cheaper too, if it works, plus could ward off flies)
The Brown Clan
Yes they are cheap but want 7.95 for postage !!!!
dancing cloud
You could aways try bitter apple from the chemist - you know, the stuff you paint on kid's nails to stop them biting them. I know it won't put them off with the smell, but the nasty taste may be enough (and it's a whole lot cheaper and easier to get than ukadex). Just a thought. chiocciare
Hi Last Wednesday there were feathers flying everywhere here. Golly had somehow worked out how to pull feathers out with a anti peck ring on. I managed to get the bumper bits but it took a few days to arrive. So in between I tried all sorts, Vicks ( didn't bother with the water just smeared it straight onto the feathers), Shaws anti peck spray and Bitter apple. I swear she liked the taste In the end what stopped her was aftershave. It did send her off flapping for a few mins but she recovered and seemed to loose the taste for poor Boco's feathers. I don't think Boco was impressed either (i took care not to spray it on any sore bits) but it worked till the bumper bits arrived but I know they don't work with your girl. If you Find somewhere locally that sells Ukadex please let me know. So I can be ready for when the little mare works out how to get round the bumper bit

Gallina
It says £9.99 on that page I gave: you are right. Am I going mad? It is still the cheapest I found however (until you add on the postage). There must be a market for selling very small quantities: some people wouldn't want much more than a couple of tablespoons of the stuff. The Brown Clan
I know I said the postage was steep but have ordered it from Merrydale as its still at least £5 cheaper than anywhere else just hope it works am desperate
Olly
I hesitated because of the postage cost, but then bought some Ukadex from Merrydale a few weeks ago, I couldn't find it anwyhere else that I could get to. don't be put off, because people swear by Ukadex, but do make sure you are wearing old clothes, rubber gloves etc, because it is VILE! I had a t-shirt and bare arms and got some on my arm, and it took quite a bit of scrubbing to get rid of. I'm also, I realised last week, going to have to ditch the rubber gloves because it's somehow got onto or into them and every time I clean the Eglu I get a waft of it! And then - because I'd sprayed their botties - all the eggs smelled of it. although that did wear off, thankfully, and it did wash out of my gardening clothes after two hot washes. good luck! I don't actually find the smell that bad. Maybe I am odd! A bit like Tabac aftershave. I've got 6 eggs today and they all vary in aroma - will this ruin the taste of the egg or is the egg clever enough to keep the smell on the outside? P.S. The stuff tastes vile ... even when watered down ... just don't ask.
chelsea
Be careful of Merrydale poultry, I paid £7.99 for next day delivery (on a wednesday) and it didnt come till the following monday. Ukadex does smell vile, but after a while your nose does become accoustomed to it! I think its the initial whiff that really gets you. Wear old clothes when applying. Steve.
I got mine from eBay, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/PandT-Poultry I paid for it on Sunday and it arrived on Wednesday. As an experiment I may have a go at tasting it neat. As a fan of nailbite solution this could be my next vice.
pistachio
I've just been looking at poultry saddles on Ebay which are specially fitted little saddle like coats that can be worm to cover wounds while they recover. If they work (and the feedback is worth reading) they'd be fantastic to have for the odd occasion. The seller is saying they are good when Cockerels are getting a bit over enthusiastic and plucky. Anybody used these before?

I was horrified when I realised how the smell had transferred to the eggs, but as I recall it didn't taint the inside, and in fact it seemed to wear off the eggs after I'd had them in a bowl in the kitchen for a bit. It's obvious, I know, that if you spray their botties then it's going to get on the eggs but I hadn't realised it! I don't think any chap would ever pull me wearing Ukadex as aftershave! Avalon Fantasy
Hi there everyone, sorry I know this is an old thread but in light of my own once sweet lulu who has turned into "The monster from hades or the black lagoon", I thought in the interest of anyone with the ole* pecking problem I would post the address of a company that sells Ukadex. http://www.bowdenandknights.com/s3/Poultry-Health.html Today is 19th May 2009 (only as the last posts were 2008) The price given to me over the phone is :£8.95 + 15% vat (that should be £10.29 ish Now this is the surprise, after having looked at the various sites mentioned previously and on other chicken forums everyones being charged £7.95 or there abouts for postage!!!! HOWEVER... the very intriguing thing is the postage.... its going to be £2.50! (In fact I`ve just checked on ebay and theres someone selling it for £16.95 + £5.95 P&P!) There is one other lovely thing and its just made my day (having a very busy one here) When I asked about giving my CC number she said oh dont bother...so I said I can pay with paypal if its easier..she said no and that they would send an invoice with the Ukadex and could I send a cheque back by return!!! And shes sending it out for tonights post too! By the way the Johnsons anti peck spray seemed to entice lulu into more of a frenzy of pecking and chasing! So for me I would say its useless

Redwing
Good idea to let everyone know, thanks I bought some Ukadex from a poultry auction on Saturday and still haven't plucked up the courage to use it
Chook n Boo Mum
I sprayed some into a cup with the intention of applying it with a brush/cloth to the pecked ones heads, then the little monsters disappeared through the cube run door & under the cube, so I couldn't reach them...mind you I couldn't honestly say I blame them...it really is the foulest thing ever! I'll try again in the morning when I have more time and will once again suit-up in my disposable "babygrow" and disposable gloves from Flytesofancy, in the meantime I will be praying that the poor little things don't lose anymore feathers ! If Udadex doesn't work, Willow will be in the sinbin again. The two Blues were starting to regrow their feathers, so I can only assume it's Willow again, she's also started on Buttercup & Bluebell I noticed today. Avalon Fantasy
Well... Ukadex arrived just now, its a big can, it came in a padded bag with shredded paper and those puffy things and the postage was £2.65!! So, I`m at a loss..(or rather am not to be honest re the people on feebay) regarding their prices. The grand total was £13.17! Net £8.95 Carriage net £2.50 VAT £1.72 So I`m going to take my daughter to her flute lesson, then with a little trepidation, go and spray Sasha and see what happens...must find wind free spot..eek. Oh you can pay I note either by cheque or BACS! I`l come back later and tell you what happened... and how *fowl* the smell is... BIG warning on can re the smell..
