sarahjm
I guess this is one for the techies but I didn't know where to post and thought maybe other forum regulars might have had the same idea!!! When you come across a really long thread, well anything over say 5 pages, it gets really hard to follow, especially if you've not got broadband and each page takes ages to load. I wondered if maybe once a thread hits a certain length it could be made into just text, taking out the signatures and just leaving the user name, just to make it easier to follow... Is it just me?!!! S x
Mrs Frugal
Hi Sarah, Graham's more techy than me and might be able to think of a way but I can't, I'm afraid, other than pasting it all together into one long posting and that would take loads of the moderators time, I think. Hopefully Graham will have a better idea though. I'll put my best turnip brain in and see what I can come up with too.
chocchick
I know a forum where it says...... Please avoid continuing long threads - when entries become off (the original) topic, please start a new thread. Threads should not exceed 30 replies - longer threads will first be Locked and then may be removed by the APS Webmaster in order to maximise use of the 250 postings available. Mrs Frugal
But we're friendlier than that .
Guest
The forum is configured to have 15 posts per page. It is changeable, but it's probably best to leave it as is. I realise that for dial up users it might be better to have perhaps 5-10 posts per page to assist in loading time, but unfortunately it's not something that is configurable per user. If you are planning on spending a lot of time on catching up with posts on the forum, you can switch images off in Internet Explorer - this will speed up your page loading, but at the expensive of seeing smilies / avatars etc. Instructions for turning off images can be found here: http://www.wavetex.com/ie_images_off.shtml Graham. Sheilaz
I'm just wondering if everyone knows to skip to the last post when you enter a topic. This may sound obvious, but I only found out from Lesley & Kate after several weeks on the forum. I'd been scrolling and page turning from page 1 everytime! Imagine that on some threads now! It may have no relevance to the original question, but thought I'd mention it.

kannie
Hi Sarah - yes I find long threads very daunting. Its OK if you can & do keep up to date with them, but when the notifications of new postings fail (as they often do), and you miss a day or two, and you can't remember where you were - then I sometimes just give up, especially if the last few postings have gone a bit off-thread or cliquey. Not sure what the answer is though. I guess one will come in due course - the recipe section is now much better - I used to find it quite unusable but now its great!!! Mrs Frugal
Glad to hear that Kannie ! It's much better now!
Mrs Frugal
I'm afraid I'm frequently guilty of skipping through threads and reading the end posting first. I miss so much that way but just can't keep up anymore!
Guest
Please don't touch the hair-washing thread! It is a really valuable 'blog' of our experience and wouldn't be the same if it were made into one long text. I would be totally devastated and depressed if it was spoilt. Mrs Frugal
Wouldn't do that Ginette! Don't worry !!
One Man Banned
and Lesley's Good Life thread should be treated like a Grade 1 listed building!
sarahjm
I agree that these long threads are wonderful, it's just hard to read the whole thing from scratch as a new member.... I'm really intrigued by the not-hair-washing thread and it has made me wash my hair less, still not given up... and Lesley is definately living my Good Life dream - chickens arrived today (!) So don't worry, I'm not wanting to get rid of the long threads!
