mojojojo
Hello everyone, Still waiting for my and hens but just wondering if anyone who lives near me knows of any good farms or places where I can buy food/cleaning/redmite stuff from? I live in Aldershot, Hants (near Farnham, Guildford, Camberley, Farnborough, Woking etc) and just wondered if anyone knows of anywhere I can go to stock up on food and other useful items for my hens before they arrive? Or perhaps you use a website?? I hear that there is a farm in Worplesdon but don't know the name or address Any help would be great! Many thanks Mojo
KimmyCustard
Mojo I dont have any chooks yet but there is a farm shop/store in Holly Lane, Worplesdon called Rokers. Went in there a few years ago and it was really good, think they should have the bits and pieces you'll need for your babies when they arrive! Let me know what you think! mojojojo
Thanks Kimmy, I think I know where that is!! I know there is a golf club called Rokers anyway. woohoo! - will check it out at the weekend 15 days to go! 18 days to go!
Mumpty
Hiya, I'm in Camberley and have found it difficult to source things locally so ordered online from Flytes so Fancy. I went to Pantiles garden centre in Chertsey, there's a large Country Wide store there, http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/Home.ice ,but not a lot of chicken stuff although it did have the basics and food and castration tools for bulls!!! OH took me to SCATS somewhere in the sticks, near Basingstoke, again, not a lot chicken wise, but certainly food/feeders, mite stuff etc. http://www.scatscountrystores.co.uk/scats/pages/page.jhtml?page_id=800003 Mine are coming next week, I'm down to single figures in days now and I cannot wait I am just soooooooo excited like you, Tuesday can't come quick enough. There's a few of us locally, we should get together.
BeckyBoo
Hi there, there's Rokers which are great but not open Sunday afternoons and closed all day Mondays or theres one in Normandy - Backhursts which is open Monday. They're both pretty much the same price wise and they both have mite powder, aubiose, pellets, mash, grit, corn, mealworms, seed bars, feeders drinkers you name it, it's all there. If you wanted to add to your flock you could do worse than to go to Perfect Poultry in Ligh"Ooops, word censored!"er - don't mention Eglus or cubes as he doesn't have a very good opinion of them but he does have some nice hens. he's got some Indian Game now and has just recently got some rather lovely Polands We should have a meet - there's loads of us in North Surrey and North Hants - there's a few from Home Farmer locally too, there was talk of a meet with some of them but it came to nothing. Anyway, THE CHICKENS ARE TAKING OVER THE SOUTH EAST!! HURRAH!! Mrs B
mojojojo
Thanks Mumpty and Mrs Bertie, I shall have everything I need in no time! Yeah, there do seem to be quite a few of us about around here! I will try and you both as friends cause would be good to maybe meet up one day in the future... Mumpty - make sure you post some pictures when yours arrive!
Bootscooter Nell
Hi, I don't know if you ever go to Sandhurst but Dees pet shop actually stock all the different types of food, grit, corn as well as live mealworms. I'm lucky in as much as it is two minutes down the road from me but would only be a 15 to 20 minute drive from Aldershot. I tend to get the specialist cleaning/mite control over the internet through flytes of fancy and regency poultry. I found the lady at Regency Poultry very helpful. GreenGirl
I am quite new to this too and have been looking for a local supplier, so far Backhurst have been the most helpful and have a good value selection - Strawberry Farm Glaziers Lane Guildford GU3 2DF 01483 811360 There is a countrywide at Lyne which might be a bit of trek, good selection but not cheap. Yep, I can feel a southeast chickenaddicts group coming on!

GreenGirl
Cool, you'll have to post some pics when you get your new chooks too, what are you going to get?
Mumpty
I'm getting a Miss Pepperpot and Gingernut Ranger from Omlet and then I'm off to Merrist Wood to get 3, maybe 4 others. Not sure what yet, the guy says he's got about 8 different breeds, so I'll take alook on Tuesday. Off to Nottingham tomorrow taking eldest DD to look around university. OH is in hospital having had shoulder surgery today, so it's down to me to drive. I don't like long motorway journeys. I have maps, sat nav and google print outs, but I'm not going to sleep well having to drive it all on my own. Wish me luck. OH says it's 3 hours there (then sit in an Economics lecture and then 3 hours home. Wooppee.

Good luck Look forward to seeing the pics of the new girls from Merrist, I didnt think of there, would have been closer than Salisbury where I got mine from, although wouldnt change them now (although pecky miss cressida is pushing her luck ) Hope OH is ok, watching the chooks will be entertaining recuperation activity! Mrs G
Hiya, I'm in Camberley so would love to meet up with anyone in the area. We found a few bits in Scats (Sherfield-On-Loddon - nr Basingstoke), there is a pet shop in Kingsmead which has some things, meal worms (which my girls wont touch and just roll their eyes at - ended up giving them to the wild birds who were much more appreciative ), but the best place I found was on the A30 near Hook, as your heading towards Hook from Blackwater it's on your left, not brilliantly signposted, it's called something Ranch I think, it's mainly horse things but then got my Aubiose there (under £8 I think) and the lady was really helpful and will order most things for you, layers pellet, mixed corn, limestone flour, grit, cider vinegar, etc, but please note they do only take cash or cheque. If I pass that way again I will try to get the name - it's not obvious and the first time I went straight passed it and ended up going up to Hook Farm - where they sell chickens but no food, etc. but they did give me good directions how to find it Will let you know if I spot anywhere else Kirstie
Bootscooter Nell
I'm in Camberley so would love to meet up with anyone in the area. I think that is a brilliant idea. So many of us in the same area, I didn't realise. Yateley, Blackwater, Camberley, Aldershot all within a stones throw of each other. What do you say Ladies? Adams Egg
I went to Southmead Poultry near Dorking, Tracy there is very helpful and has everything you will ever need at a reasonable price. Google will find it
Nutmeg
So many of us in the same area, I didn't realise. Yateley, Blackwater, Camberley, Aldershot all within a stones throw of each other. Room for a little one from Fleet? Would love to meet up and never realised there were so many of us in North Hants. On the supplies front, I use SCATS (near Basingstoke), Flytes of Fancy and Wiggly Wigglers on internet and visit Eileen Douglas Tack Shop near Wokingham for Aubiose, Pellets, Corn and Cider Vinegar. BeckyBoo
There's a thread at the bottom of the forum for arranging meets, could I join in? We're only a few miles from Camberley. Don't forget Perfect Poultry in Ligh"Ooops, word censored!"er, no supplies but LOTS of hens Mrs B

Of course everyone who would like to come will be welcome so please PM me if you are definitely interested and if you have any suggestions on when and where. With a bit of luck we will be able to arrange something convenient to us all. So let's get the ball rolling
Valkyrie
The place in Hook is called Shapley Ranch - again mostly for equine, but I get aubiose from there too because it is very near me (mental note to get more). I have bought loads from a place just outside Alton on the way to Selbourne - lots of stuff for poultry and big choice for feed, and we bought the shop up a while ago, although it can be a little more expensive. In our search for poultry supplies we even found a nice litte family run farm shop that did absolutely nothing that I wanted, but we ended up with lots of delicious sausages instead - non organic, but have been back for more since! Egg Lou (hello Lou, how's chicks?) has managed to get birdy feed near to her work, and kindly gave me some Flubenvet a little while ago. If you can club together that's great - we bought 2 bags of bokashi from Wiggly Wigglers while on offer and shared it. I still have quite a lot left. Someone always posts when they find good offers. There's quite a few of us in the Basingstoke area, so yep, this corner is being taken over by chicken lovers! Somebody on the forum got their birds from Hook House farm (towards Hook not far after Shapley Ranch, but on the right hand side of the A30 before the roundabout into Hook village). We did look there (held some chicks), but I wanted my Orpies, but I think the other member is happy with her birds. They have a website too: http://www.hookfarm.net Other than that, I bought up Scats near Basingstoke for more bits (huge tub of garlic powder, drinkers, feeders, poultry spice etc), so not all bad at that one. We even went to Scats in Winchester - not impressed by that one, though. Other than that it is the internet - mainly for medical type stuff. Regency Poultry is good for a lot of that. Unfortunately Pay Pal is a pain in the bottom because they won't recognise me as a different person and my bill was sent to my husband (not that I complained too much about that - we are still married, but inconvenient with our different codes and credit cards - I can never remember his code)! I think Ain't "Ooops, word censored!"ody Here had a good list somewhere on a posting of all the internet sites.
Ain't Nobody Here
Here's my list. It's certainly not definitive - I've just kept a note of some sites that either I found to be cheap or that others have recommended. Sorry, I never got round to putting what could be found on each site so you'll just have to browse through them . jlo
Me too. Mrs G - if you remember the name of the "Ranch" place, could you let me know. I got aubiose from Oakley but that sounds much closer. I remember when I first joined the forum that there had just been a meet up at ( I think) The Vyne with a load of local omleteers. If anyone has any bright ideas for another meet up, it would be great to see you all.
