WitchHazel
Sorry to hear about Jude, Claret. Is it really likely to be Mareks? I thought Mareks had very pronounced symproms with legs sticking out etc? I hope it isn't, as I understand it's very difficult to eradicate. The Dogmother
I didn't want a PM done, but am almost certain that it is Mareks. She was showing gradual paralysis and none of the usual signs of a stroke. The rest of the flock are fine and healthy... most flocks have it in their systems (transmitted from wild birds) and most never exhibit any symptoms at all, or at the most just look slightly unwell for a bit. I have disinfected everything and am keeping a watchful eye on them - the incubation period is a week, so I shall know if any of them are going to come down with it. Thanks for your concern guys. FYI, if you have hybrids, they are most likely to have been vaccinated against it when they were hatched - the Omlet birds certainly are, so it's pretty rare. I've only ever seen it once before myself. I am lucky in that my vet is one of the country's leading avian experts.
