Single hen

That is just ridiculous, how ignorant. My girls can't lay enough eggs. I'm sure I've seen my neighbour standing over them, trying to squeeze the eggs out of them in the past

My OH took 3 boxes into work this week and they all phoned him the next day to say how lovely the eggs tasted and how different to their normal eggs

 

I regularly give my neighbours a box of eggs, just as a sweetener really but they both love the girls.

 

YS took a box in to school today for one of the teaching assistants that is leaving. She has always been interested in the chickens and she had some at the end of the summer term.

I have only ever had one person say that they prefer supermarket eggs, because mine tasted too.....wait for it....."eggy"

They do We get our lunch free at work. There is broiler chicken (usually from Poland or Denmark )on the menu at work everyday. I will not eat it, nor will I eat anything with mayo in it (mayo comes in buckets so not free range eggs) or the cakes as the eggs are from battery chickens.

 

I do get the mickey taken out of me somethimes for sticking to my principles

 

I managed to get registered on my local freecycle and then remembered that since we moved in July I have not been able to send or receive emails due to the internet problems here Hope it gets sorted very soon. I am going to put a sign up at the end of the drive offering free eggs to passers by. Renting egg boxes out seems like a good idea, but I am not sure if that would be classed as running a business from home which the house deeds will not allow.

I don't know! I wish mine would start laying again! I have 10 hens and this week I've had... 2 eggs!!!

I shouldn't worry about house deeds / running a business. It's not like you have got HGV's using your place of residence as a depot.

 

A hobby and a business are two different things ...

They really start mounting up, don't they? I'm on a pickling and freezing frenzy now - so they last me through the non-laying season. The pickled ones will go in Christmas hampers.

OMG Have just caught up with this and hubby and I are absolutely horrified at the ignorance of some people.

 

We can't keep everyone in supply of our eggs - there is always demand. Also, a friend of ours has told us that her 6 year old son will absolutely NOT eat eggs from the supermarket anymore as they do not have the names of the hen who laid them on each egg! (Bless him).

My friends little boy is like that now - but he will only eat blue or white eggs!

If none of the evening staff take them I will bring them home tomorrow and we will be having omelettes for the next few days.

 

Have you tried to take them into the feed store in elgin A & I and see if they will sell them for you? Someone I know did that and they love them but you'd need to ask. I am loaded up with them too at present but making quiche for the freezer with them and the glut of small baby tomatoes we had too. I will need to freeze for the winter days I think.

I'm sorry I'm a bit late in posting this reply but I found this really useful article recently which is about storing eggs which may be of interest. You can then use them for cooking if you need them at a time when you don't have enough (although sounds like this may be some way off!).

I wish I was near 'coz I'd have them like a shot and deliver a tub of meal worms to the girls for all their hard work!

 

Still, I had my first one layed yesterday only 31g but its a start, from one of my new girls - typical the first day I have worked away for home for a few weeks so don't know who it was. We haven't had any eggs since the beginning of the year as my old girls (1 now RIP ) have gone into laying retirement.
