No one wants my eggs

Recommended Posts

With 3 of the Yorkshire girls now laying everyday, 2 of the Bantams deciding its not time to stop laying for the winter and a rubbish cooker that will not bake cakes I have a bit of an egg glut.

This morning I took in to work 8 of the freshest eggs each one bearing the date laid, the weight of the egg and the name of the Chicken who laid it. I told my work colleagues to help themselves. When I came home the eggs were still stitting on the staff room table.

Someone said no to my offer of the eggs because "I've not eaten eggs like that before" :? I know you haven't because I see the carpy supermarket egg mayo sandwiches you bring to work  . Another person refused because she said she could never eat an egg if she knew the name of the chicken who laid it  A third person asked what colour the yolks were. when I said orange she said that she couldn't eat eggs with an orange yolk :?

If none of the evening staff take them I will bring them home tomorrow and we will be having omelettes for the next few days.

What a shame! I wish you lived around here - i've got people falling over themselves for eggs here!

What funny beggars. Did they think you were going to charge them or are they just a bit dim? Why can't someone have an orange yolk??? Erm, thats better than the mellow yellow ones!? Duh. Don't feel disheartened! What about your neighbours? I gave some away to say thanks for putting up with the chaos while girls settled in and now they want them all the time!

Nowt so queer as folks  They really do sound odd, not to say rude and ungrateful - what colour do they think an egg yolk is?

Wish you lived nearer, as I've got a backlog of boxes to be filled - my staff can't get enough of them (and some of them have even met the hens, so can put faces to the names that laid the eggs :D).

You could try freezing some, so you'll always have a supply, and giving them to friends/relatives/neighbours. There was a suggstion in a previous post of a week's fresh eggs as a raffle prize. Freecycle would be good for finding interested people, or you could try an honesty box outside your home for any passing trade. Have you got any local soup-kitchen type places that might welcome free and good food?

I'm sure there are other people who would be very grateful (or you could try mailing them to me - fresh eggs, pre-scrambled  )

Well no one took the eggs so I have brought them back home. Eggs for supper tonight then :D I didn't want any money for the eggs, I just thought somone would appreciate really fresh tasty eggs.

I only have 2 neighbours who live at the start and end of the lane, I do know that one of them keeps chickens, I will take a walk up to the other neighbour and see if they would like them. I can't sell them as there is something in the deeds where we are not allowed to sell from the cottage, have a shop or have any sort of profession working from home. I don't have the freezer space to freeze the eggs and my chest freezer is sitting in the workshop which does not have power.

I have never had any luck registering with my local freecycle :? I will look into it again.

I also have 6 apple trees laden with eating and cooking apples. I was going to take them into work as well, don't think I will bother now.

If the people you work with are daft enough to turn down such a lovely offer, try your nearest old peoples rest home or nursing home.

Many people there probably used to keep ther own hens and will be thrilled to have a proper dippy egg for breakfast, plus would love to see pictures of the girls who layed them.

Don't give up hope, lots of truly deserving people will appreciate them :D

Mostin, that's a great Idea!!!

I can't believe they are silly enough to turn them down. Dont blame you for not taking the apples in either....

Man, I am sure we all wished we lived nearer to you!!!

Maybe you'll have to make apple cake until it's coming out of your ears, then they could go to church fete etc....

I don't sell my eggs as you should also be registered and the eggs tested etc etc but I rent the egg boxes for £1 and give the eggs away :D:D:D

I thought this for a while too.

Only need to be registered if you have more than, I think 50 chooks. Otherwise you are fine.

Novel idea though!

£1 for 6 is a bargain.
