abwsco
Our black rock Manjula has decided that jumping on, then trundling along our garden walls is great fun as she can peck at the ivy and then spit it out! We've had to get her off the walls 5 times today and that's only when we've seen her up there. As if that wasn't bad enough she decided to do a vertical take off 5 foot in the air tonight after a fly! She's so small and light compared to the others that we're not sure if even wing clipping will help stop it. Oh and we also found Barney on the garden wall today eating at a chicken bone that was hidden in the shrubs Wonder if I can persuade hubby that covering the whole garden in fruit netting would be a the perfect solution -lol
Egluntyne
One of my Bluebelles jumped up on to the top of the walk in run yesterday. It is over 6'. She had to be encouraged down with a broom as once she was up there, she hadn't a clue. Her wings have now been clipped.
alison
I've just seen one of my white sussex jump about 5 ft high inside the pen, so I am going to have to clip her wing or she will be running round the neighbourhood! I wondered how she had got over the picket fencing, which has wire along the top.
bronze
Maggie has had a wing cipped and still gets onto the 6 foot run with ease.
mrs chook
Maggie has had a wing cipped and still gets onto the 6 foot run with ease. My speckledly flew straight up onto a 5 foot fence - she's had a wing trim now but 6'?? Wow!
abwsco
Yep, we don't know whethere to clip or not. My sisters chooks cleared over 6ft with a clipped wing as well! On a safety note we have recently finished fencing off some of the garden for the girls and put chicken wire on the top for extra height as a temporary measure. However, the newbies still jumped on top of it but wobbled. This could have had dreadful consequences as one slipped and fell. Her foot was caught fast in the wire so she was dangling upside down by her foot Luckily, I was in the garden so was able to hold her up and get hubby to come and cut the wire away. I dread to think what would have happened if I wasn't there at the time Needless to say we've taken the wire off.

..lay a little egg for me
Amazing! Three of our four chooks have clipped wings but none of them ever tries to jump more than 2-3 ft. They are in a run with apple and pear trees, but I've never seen one even try to get into the trees. They don't appear to know what their wings are actually for!!! I hope they don't find out...
