bigmommasally
Thought you may like to see pictures of my new chickens which I got over the weekend This is Alice, A Splash Orpington age 25 weeks. Me holding Alice - my first chicken cuddle This is Mary, a blue Silkie age 25 weeks Here is Maude, a Magpie hybrid age 22 weeks Me giving Maude a cuddle Introducing Doris a speckle hybrid age 22 weeks And here's Gwen a Black rock cross age 20 weeks The girls have all settled in well, I think Doris or Maude will be top chick judging from the pecking being dished out. Alice, the Orpington, is the biggest but is a gentle giant and doesn't peck any of the others just takes it all! She is definately bottom of the group. Gwen the youngest hybrid likes to try to take control but Maude or Doris soon put her in her place, and little Mary the Silkie is a fiesty little girl who gives poor Alice a good pecking every time she walks by! All in all though the pecking order so far hasn't been anywhere near as bad as I'd expected (she say's touching wood) Doris has laid our first egg this afternoon which really surprised us all (and her - judging from the clucking that she did for about an hour before and after! ) Have to say though I'm staggered by the amount of poo they've done and the mess they've made chucking their pellets everywhere! bigmommasally
Thanks for all the lovely compliments everyone. I've relayed them all to the girlies and they're all puffed up with pride (or maybe its just a bit windy out there!) I'm not too sure if Alice will grow much more, the breeder said she wouldn't but he may have just said that to calm my worries over having a big breed together with a Silkie.
