chooklady
My daughter Abby has just bought 2 guinea pigs and a lovely hutch with saved up money and birthday money. One of the pigs she bought for her sister, isn't that sweet. Abby's has a swirly coat and the other has a wiry coat, he looks like a little sheep. Abby's one doesn't have a name yet but the other one is called Scrumpy, well he was last time I asked anyway. Scrumpy is on the left and the one with no name is on the right, any suggestions gratefully received! I've been on the forum for a while, I have six hens and a dog and tropical fish, a long suffering husband and 3 kids! SarahJo
Gorgeous little pigs - they are really cute looking. Scrumpy is a funky name - how about Shandy or punch for the other?.
Ain't Nobody Here
How cute . (I must admit when I first read your post, I thought you'd said "he isn't that sweet". I thought strange, he is very sweet . ) How about Jack ("Scrumpy Jack" ? Might be lost on the kids though )
chooklady
Thanks for the suggestions, I would be more than happy with any one of those. I will see what madam thinks as she still hasn't come up with any ideas of her own yet!!

chooklady
Piggies names - update Scrumpy is on the left and the one on the right is Fudge. There were 2 brilliant piggies at the garden centre today where we got ours from. They looked almost like porkupines and were ginger and white. Has anyone added boy guineas to existing boy guineas and did it go alright or did they argue, just wondering incase we want to get some more in the future. pacman
It's a bit behind the times, but I have succesfully bonded two adult boars after mine was berieved with the help of my local rescue. It can be scary at first! You have to hold your nerve. The first guinea we tried things got nasty, so we tried another boy and as they didn't take an instant dislike to each other we gave it a go. With time and gentle introduction we got there. Each pig has their own personality and some just won't get on. You need to introduce then on neutral territory in a large space with places for them to hide to give it a chance. Try putting plenty of fresh veg out to serve as a distraction. Let them find each other rather then putting them together. There will be teeth chattering, rumble strutting and probably mounting as they have to suss out who is dominant (and one has to be). Leave them to it and try not to interfere unless it looks like blood is about to be drawn. Throw a towel over them to assist you with separation if this happens (don't want to get bitten by mistake). With my chaps I kept them divided in a large cage so they could see each other during the day when I was out and then let them be together when I was there to watch. It took about a month before the new guy (tigger) stopped being horrible to Perry, but we got there and they're good mates now. Two lonely boys finding friendship....what more can you hope for? Anyway, that's how i did it. I'm sure others are more than able to give you tips. It is generally easier to introduce a baby boy to an adult boar as the elder naturally takes on the dominant role. They have to be very young though (?about 6 weeks) so get one through a breeder or rescue place as shop bought pigs will be too old.
pacman
Oops. Forgot to mention.....no more than two boys together as a general rule. And no, they can't have a girlfriend
