half dozen
Just picked up my gorgeous 8 week old cochin got two not three(not told hubby yet). I have put them in their own run in the stable but next to the existing 5 girls. They are just separated by 3 metre omlet run for cube. Now one of my original girls is being extremely noisy and vocal, almost as if she is shouting at them.Is this normal behaviour when introducing new chicks? I ended up getting one buff, one white and one splash. They are adorable
MedusA
It's perfectly normal for them to be noisily anxious about this "interloper". Don't worry. It will calm down. Very gradual intoductions work best and I am a firm believer of a 7-day quarantine period, just in case your new hens have any lurgies that might affect your existing flock. Hope the introductions go well. There are some great ideas on the Introductions Sticky.
abwsco
The noise from exsisting chickens can be unbelievable can't it. The first time we brought 2 new ones home the exbatts sounded like they were swearing to each other from around 1pm unitl nearly 10pm. This time we had a lot less noise thank goodness. Hope we'll get to see some pics soon

Helen&Lee
They are absolutely gorgeous. Hope Chelsea catches this thread when she is back from her hols - she will love those pics. As for the noise, my original girls were terrible this summer when I introduced two more and the light mornings meant they started at 5am. It took a few weeks for them to calm down and I have been left with one particular vocal chook.

MedusA
What beautiful girls, half dozen. I'm not surprised you couldn't resist getting three instead of two. OH won't let me have any more chickens I have cochins on my list for when he caves in. Maybe next year.
