This is easy to make,tastes wonderfully Christmassy & looks pretty in the bottle.

Put 100g dried cranberries, 50g prunes,125g golden caster sugar,1 cinnamon stick,itbsp juniper berries (lightly crushed), the pared rind of 1 orange & the contents of a 70cl bottle of vodka into a 1 litre clean sterilised bottle.

Leave for 2 weeks,shaking every now & then.

Strain through a clean musiln cloth ,decant into sterilised pretty bottles & give as gifts to people you like 8)

It will keep for up to 3 months in a cool dark place.

I'm going to give it a go. I love sweet spicy Christmassy smells. What else goes in your hampers? In fact, I'll start another post - I'm sure there are lots of hampery folks out there. I'm doing marmalade, pickled eggs, jam and chutney this year with something nutty to use all my wild walnuts and hazlenuts.

14 to be precise! :lol::lol::lol:

I managed to get a couple of bottles of cheap vodka in Poland, £3 a litre :shock::shock:

(will probably turn you blind though :shock::wink: )

I bought some delicious Cranberry vodka last year in Poland and will be buying some more in November plus lots of others :dance: as I have a long list of the good ones :oops:

You're right, it does look pretty in the bottle! I know it says to strain at the end and obviously I don't know what it will look like by then, but have you ever tried leaving some fruit in or some fresh pared orange rind? That would look lovely I reckon. (My rellies are going to be well and truly pickled by their crhistmas pressies this year!) :D

I'd like to try this with gin rather than vodka.

Where do you get the cranberries though? I have Craisens from when they were reduced in Watirose but they are all sweetened. I just looked on tesco.com and they have dried cranberries reduced BUT they have added pineapple juice!

I used Craisens Pengy, didn't occur to me that they were sewwtened, & I got a free bag with my Ocado shop 8)

I think I got some from Tesco last time.

Not sure about the Gin element either,as the mix you add to the Vodka smells very 'Ginny' with the crushed Juniper berries :?

It might make it all a bit too junipery?
